New Look at Captain America in full costume

It has been a big week for Marvel on the interwebs. To the delight of geeks everywhere, yesterday saw the release of the first glimpse of Andrew Garfield in his new Spidey suit. Details were scarce, and by scarce, there were absolutely none, but it still was a cool look at the superhero icon in his costume.

Also released yesterday was a glimpse at Chris Evans in the Captain America costume that he will be wearing to fight the dirty Ratzis, as well as the Hydra organization headed by the Red Skull. The original images were fairly low quality, but today a new, higher quality version of the same image was released. The pictures are part of an upcoming article in the print edition of Entertainment Weekly, while this photo comes courtesy of Comingsoon.net.

In the picture above, Chris Evans is standing in front of two Hydra soldiers, undoubtedly about to serve them some good ol’ American justice. Beyond that, there isn’t much more to say. The Captain America costume is possibly the most difficult of all superhero costumes to recreate in a live action movie without it coming off as…well, stupid, for lack of a better word, but the filmmakers seem to have found a solid formula that shows some realism while still honoring the character.

Still no images of Hugo Weaving in full Red Skull makeup (or full CGI as the case might be), although a few concept art drawings have been released of the Red Skull holding the cosmic cube—check them out below.

Directed by Joe Johnston, Captain America: The First Avenger hits theaters in 3D on July 22, 2011.

What say you, readers.  Do you like the look at the costume?

The Marvel movies lost something when they lost Steve Rogers

“You’re not Steve Rogers,” growls Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross with signature Harrison Ford crankiness in Captain America: Brave New World, the new Marvel movie coming to theaters next week. It’s a point the man he’s addressing, the man in the stars and stripes, confidently concedes. Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) spent some of his Disney+ vehicle The Falcon and the Winter Soldier doubting his fitness to carry the shield Rogers, the original Captain America, passed down to him. In Brave New World, Sam has fully assumed the mantle of his mentor, and judging from scenes of Mackie swooping through the air on mechanical wings, he’s going to do the whole national superhero thing his own way. He’s not trying to be Steve.

Avengers, disassemble. Chris Evans, who played Captain America for nearly a decade in the MCU, is not returning to Marvel for the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. At least that's what he told Esquire in a profile of his former co-star, Anthony Mackie.

The interview with Mackie occurred on the same day as Deadline's report about Evans returning to Marvel for Avengers: Doomsday. Mackie, who will play the new Captain America as Sam Wilson, had no prior knowledge of Evans' involvement with the next Avengers movie.

Anthony Mackie clears up polarizing Captain America comments: ‘I’m a proud American’

Anthony Mackie has addressed the controversy surrounding his polarizing comments about Captain America.

During a recent promo tour stop in Italy for Captain America: Brave New World, Mackie mentioned that the titular character does not represent the term "America."
“To me, Captain America represents a lot of different things, and I don’t think the term ‘America’ should be one of those representations,” Mackie said in a video posted on social media. “It’s about a man who keeps his word, who has honor, dignity, and integrity. Someone who is trustworthy and dependable.”
