Donald Glover gets a wake-up call (or seven) in new promo for FX’s ‘Atlanta’

There’s no rest for the weary in the new promo for the FX series Atlanta. The video offers a montage of Donald Glover (Community), the star of the music-centric comedy, as he wakes up in no less than seven different locations. It looks like his character is going to be running himself ragged.

The series centers on Earn Marks (played by Glover) and his rapper cousin, Alfred (Brian Tyree Henry), as they attempt to navigate the Atlanta music world. Alfred is the one on stage, while Earn works behind the scenes to try and launch his cousin’s career. Meanwhile, their friend Darius (Lakeith Lee Stanfield) is also involved.

While the first promo centered on the three guys together, Earn is the focus of the latest video. We also see his daughter, whose mother is Earn’s best friend, Vanessa (Zazie Beetz). The little girl definitely provides the cutest wake-up call, while others are less fun to wake up to, like the noise of a vacuum cleaner or his buddies playing video games. Earn’s sleeping surfaces vary in comfort as well, and it seems like he’ll sleep wherever he can, whether that be a bed, recording studio floor, couch, or even hammock.

Another major focus of the promo, of course, is the music. The only spoken line in the 45-second promo is when Earn asks his daughter what she’s doing, leaving the focus on the the images and other sounds. The video comes together as a compelling clip, and it should do its job of making you curious to see what Glover and company have come up with when the show premieres this fall.

Glover, the show’s creator, also executive produces alongside Paul Simms and Dianne McGunigle. Atlanta premieres September 6 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on FX.

Miles Teller and J. K. Simmons in Whiplash.

April belongs to Tom Hardy. The English actor is one of the stars on Guy Ritchie's MobLand, a popular Paramount+ series. Later this month, Hardy will tackle crime and corruption in Havoc, a new action thriller from acclaimed director Gareth Evans. Havoc is already generating positive buzz and should be on Netflix's most popular list.

While Havoc will remain on Netflix for a long time, these five movies are leaving the service at the end of the month. Our picks include an emotional romance, a landmark superhero adventure, and a terrific psychological drama.

Jawed Karim in YouTube's first video in 2005.

It lacks the high production values present in so many of today’s YouTube videos, but then Jawed Karim wasn’t aiming for anything slick. It was merely a little something to launch his new video streaming site.

Filmed at San Diego Zoo by a friend and posted on April 23, 2005, Karim says straight to camera: “All right, so here we are in front of the elephants. The cool thing about these guys is that they have really, really, really long trunks, and that’s cool, and that’s pretty much all there is to say.”
