Honest Trailers takes on Guardians Of The Galaxy, Marvel’s ‘Space Avengers’

The highest-grossing film of the year so far, Guardians of the Galaxy, has won over critics and audiences alike with its cosmic adventure featuring a misfit group of would-be saviors of the universe — but that hasn’t stopped it from getting the “Honest Trailers” treatment.

The team at Screen Junkies that produces the popular series of trailer parodies brutally critiquing popular films (or entire franchises of films) does indeed find some things to ridicule about the celebrated sci-fi adventure, including the similarities between the protagonists of Guardians of the Galaxy and The Avengers — calling the film “Marvel’s Space Avengers” at one point. The just-shy-of-five-minute video also jokes that the existence and subsequent success of the film and its obscure cast of characters proves that at this point, audiences will watch pretty much anything made by Marvel Studios.

Still, the “Honest Trailers” team admits early on in their Guardians of the Galaxy dissection that “We’re really reaching here. This was a fun movie.”

And it’s a pretty fun critique of the movie, too.

Three acclaimed but overlooked Apple TV series headline this weekend's watchlist.
A still from Dark Matter (2024) on Apple TV

Some of the best series on Apple TV have earned great reviews, yet none of them get talked about nearly as much as they deserve. That's why I have included three different genres in this weekend's binge list, which is based on a bestselling sci-fi novel, a beloved wine manga, and a true-crime memoir. The best part is that each one of these shows manages to outdo its source material's reputation on the screen.

We also have guides to the best new movies to stream, the best movies on Netflix, the best movies on Hulu, the best free movies, and the best movies on Amazon Prime Video.

Denzel Washington playing Macbeth in The Tragedy of Macbeth (2021)

Apple TV's original catalog is full of hidden gems that never got the attention they deserved, and this weekend's picks prove it. From a true story about two Black entrepreneurs outsmarting a racist system, to Denzel Washington's chilling take on Shakespeare's most ambitious villain, to a scrappy Dublin family finding harmony through music, these three movies span very different genres.

We also have guides to the best new movies to stream, the best movies on Netflix, the best movies on Hulu, the best free movies, and the best movies on Amazon Prime Video.
