Parody video shows what Instagram interactions would look like in real life

Instagram lives entirely on the screen of whatever smartphone or computer it is you’re viewing it on. It’s little more than pixels on a screen, but the truth of the matter is that more than half a billion people use these pixels to capture their lives and keep up with the happenings of family and friends.

What if that wasn’t the case the case, though? What if, instead of tapping, pressing, and typing away on a screen, your daily interactions were dictated by the user experience paradigms used throughout the Instagram app?

While such integration might be as far off as a consumer version of Microsoft’s HoloLens, a fun new video from YouTube channel Haugen Creative takes a look at the humorous side of how Instagram would be if it were experienced and interacted with based on real life.

The clip comes in at two minutes long and pokes fun at the various aspects of Instagram, as Megan Mitchell of Style’d Avenue walks through the streets interacting with passive and aggressive fans. From unfollowing fans to dealing with the awkwardness of un-liking a post, the video covers pretty much every aspect of Instagram interactions.

While the video is made in jest and meant as a tongue-in-cheek parody, it goes to show how influential a single application can become in pop culture.

Until augmented reality Instagram becomes a reality, we’ll have to hold off on the photo sharing site consuming our lives as Pokémon Go has the past week. But don’t count on that being the case for too much longer. Between Gear VR, HoloLens and Oculus, it’s only a matter of time.

Facebook (and, by extension, Meta) are particular in the way that they allow users to create accounts and interact with their platform. Being the opposite of the typical anonymous service, Facebook sticks to the rule of one account per one person. However, Facebook allows its users to create multiple profiles that are all linked to one main Facebook account.

In much the same way as Japanese philosophy tells us we have three faces — one to show the world, one to show family, and one to show no one but ourselves — these profiles allow us to put a different 'face' out to different aspects or hobbies. One profile can keep tabs on your friends, while another goes hardcore into networking and selling tech on Facebook Marketplace.
