Digital Trends prides itself on the way it tests products, from phones to laptops to video games. We’ve already announced our top product picks for the year, but there’s one thing that’s still missing: our readers.

This year, we want you to nominate your favorite tech of 2019. What’s the product that you can’t live without, that changed your life, or even changed the world in an irreversible way?  Is there a product that you think deserves to be on our top products list, but didn’t make the cut?

A few rules: we’ll only consider products in the categories that we cover: mobile, home theater, photography, emerging tech, computing, cars, gaming, smart home, movies, and television. If you suggest something that isn’t tech, we won’t consider it. That said, there’s still a lot of latitude: our Top Tech of CES 2019 award went to the Impossible Burger 2.0. Be creative!

As we receive nominations, we’ll update this post with our favorite picks and share our readers’ reasons why they love their tech. Don’t just tell us why a product is good. Tell us the story of how it affected your life or your community.

Nominations will be open until Wednesday, December 11 at 5 p.m. PT. After that, we’ll create a poll with the top five nominees and allow our readers to vote for their choice for top tech.

You can now download Facebook’s Messenger app to your desktop

Facebook launched a Messenger desktop app for Windows and macOS on Thursday, allowing users to text, voice and video chat for free outside of the social media platform’s website.

In a press release, Facebook noted, “Over the past month, we saw more than a 100% increase in people using their desktop browser for audio and video calling on Messenger.”

We are all supposed to be practicing social distancing right now to help stop the spread of the coronavirus, formally known as COVID-19. But a new interactive map makes it clear that some of us are following the guidelines better than others. 

Unacast, a location data company, created a social distancing scoreboard that ranks how well states and counties are following social distancing guidelines. The map uses tens of millions of anonymous mobile phones and their interactions with other phones to compare the distance traveled in a given day.

The coronavirus has effectively shut down public movement in wide parts of China, killed at least 1,873 people, and infected more than 45,000. It has also put the world’s iPhone supply and online retailers like behemoth Alibaba at risk as chip and hardware manufacturing and supply chains have taken a hit and over 150 million Chinese remain under lockdown. 

According to market research company Trendforce’s latest report, released Monday, February 17, coronavirus could lead cause a huge drop in the overall supply of tech products around the world. The company predicted that about 16% fewer smartwatches will ship from China, along with 10% fewer smartphones, 12% fewer notebooks, 5% fewer TVs and 8% fewer cars.
