A $99 4GB iPhone?

Rumors hint at the possibility of Apple releasing a 4GB iPhone for the price of $99 at the Worldwide Developers Conference next week.

The Register has looked at a number of reports and rumors that together seem to hint at the possibility of Apple releasing a 4GB model of the iPhone next week at its Worldwide Developers Conference.

The first comes from Endgadget, which has a supposed leak from the PCS Type Review Certification Board, the group certifying GSM handsets, saying it has approved iPhones of 4GB, 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB capacities.

Another site, The Boy Genius, claims to have slides from a subsidiary of Rogers Communications, the large Canadian telecoms company. Among them is one of an Apple iPhone (4GB) available for $99 on a three-year contract, with video calling and a 2.0MP camera, although the site admits it’s "very far away from being able to confirm this information."

However, that seems to have a little more weight with the report that Apple has a contract with a Taiwanese that supplies 2.0MP camera lenses.

As The Register admits, it’s not a lot to go on. But more might be revealed next week.
