You’ve no doubt heard the Samsung Galaxy Nexus has been delayed—and then some. After much speculation, the premier Ice Cream Sandwich phone still can’t be found on shelves, yet we might be inching closer to a release.
A Costco coupon obtained by DroidDog advertises a $290 Galaxy Nexus bundle, which in addition to the phone will reportedly include a leather pouch, car charger, and a screen protector. The deal requires a two year contract with Verizon and will be available December 15. Of course, Costco was also supposed to have the handset available December 9, which has clearly come and gone with no sign of the Galaxy Nexus.
This doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the official launch date from Verizon, and Costco members could easily be the first to get their hands on the phone. In the interest of pulling at loose ends a little, the December 15 launch has been mentioned before, and this does give it slightly more credence. Of course the continuing delays and lack of information from Verizon works against any optimism.
All that said, it’ll be worth it to check out any Costco coupons and releases this Thursday to see if the Galaxy Nexus is finally among them.
Sheesh this phone is worse than Bigfoot. Just announce the dumb thing already google!
I can’t see it being released on the 15th if there hasn’t been an official date set by either Verizon or Samsung. I can’t see them releasing the new flag ship phone with only one day warning for me to grab all my camping gear and get a good spot in line outside of Costco.
Is this phone really that great? Worth getting in line for?
I agree, the 15th seems wayyy too soon with no proper release announcement.
If you just look at the hardware specs, no, it’s not. A lot of phones are coming out with better specs already, and in a few months everything will be better.
Likewise, if you look at the software specs, no, it’e not. Yes, it’s the first official ICS phone, but give it a week and more ICS phones will be available.
The point nobody seems to be focusing on – the REAL REASON to buy this phone – involve two words: PURE GOOGLE.
#1 It will have no… er, rather… less carrier specific bloatware than any other phone on the market, and that happens very rarely.
#2 Updates will come directly from Google, ensuring that when updates are introduced, you won’t have to wait an eternity for it to push to your phone.
Good point, there will be none of that GUI overlay crap that all the phone companies or manufacturers like to put on there. It will be running Google natively.
Sad that something so simple is wanted by most people. These companies need to leave the Os ALONE!
To go off of what Travis said below, it really isn’t any better hardware wise than the other Galaxy S II devices. Sure you could nitpick about the 720p screen, but the SG2 offers similar if not better specs in almost every category.
It really is for the pure Android experience, which for me = free WiFi tethering. I don’t see me upgrading to this phone, even though I really want to.
What I this is BS is that I am POSITIVE the Verizon execs are passing comments like, “Screw them (the customers). They get it when we’re ready to give it and they’ll love it. All this hate will pass.” I am POSITIVE they do not care about this kind of annoyance. Very few leave to make a point.
Well said.
