Play ‘Destiny 2’ on PC for free: Here’s what you need to do

Bungie and Activision, in collaboration with Blizzard, are offering Destiny 2 on PC for free for a limited time, in celebration of the game’s first anniversary on the platform.

The free copy of Destiny 2 on PC will only be available until November 18, so gamers who want to jump in as new Guardians should act now.

The only requirement is that players should have a Battle.net account, as the free game will be downloaded through Blizzard’s Battle.net client. It is also free to sign up for Battle.net, but accounts that are created after November 2, 11:00 a.m. PDT are required to enable Blizzard’s SMS Protect feature before claiming the Destiny 2 game license, which is redeemable as a free gift from https://account.blizzard.com/gifts/.

Players who already own Destiny 2 on PC will instead receive an exclusive emblem, which becomes available in December. In addition, new players will be able to try Gambit, the new 4v4 hybrid mode that comes with the game’s latest expansion Forsaken, from November 9 to November 11 during the Gambit Free Weekend.

Bungie and Activision are looking to bring in new players after the disastrous Destiny 2 launch in September 2017. The game first went free on the PlayStation 4 as one of the offerings for PlayStation Plus subscribers in September. This was followed by Bungie’s announcement that Curse of Osiris and Warmind, the first two expansions of Destiny 2, would be included with every purchase of Forsaken.

Before downloading Destiny 2, players might want to check if their PC passes the minimum or recommended specifications. Destiny 2 is playable on Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 10.

Using three monitors is the way to play Destiny 2, but only for gamers who have the hardware and horsepower for such a set-up.

Destiny was launched in September 2014, with four major expansions The Dark Below, House of Wolves, The Taken King, and Rise of Iron. Destiny 2 was released three years after the first game as the sixth chapter, followed by Curse of Osiris.

Destiny 2 studio Bungie hit by layoffs, internal game delays

Amid a wave of layoffs at Destiny developer and Sony subsidiary Bungie this week, Destiny 2: The Final Shape and Marathon have both reportedly been delayed.
On Monday morning, tweets from developers revealed that Bungie, which was acquired by Sony in January 2022, was suffering layoffs. This was followed up by a report from Bloomberg that went into more detail about the layoffs and their impact on Bungie's future games. Sony and Bungie have not officially commented on the delays yet, although the Bloomberg article mentions that Bungie CEO Pete Parsons will hold a team meeting later today to discuss the layoffs further. This all follows contractor layoffs at Sony studio Naughty Dog earlier this month, which happened as that studio struggles to develop and release a The Last of Us multiplayer game. 

Bloomberg suggests that these layoffs, like others at Sony this year, are tied to internal game delays. While Destiny 2: The Final Shape is publicly slated to come out in February 2024, Bungie reportedly told staff that it's now going to come out in June 2024. Meanwhile, we learned that Bungie's revival of Marathon was apparently targeting a 2024 launch -- although no release window was given officially -- but will now come out sometime in 2025. These delays make the PlayStation 5's 2024 game lineup look pretty sparse right now outside of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and it suggests that Destiny 2's next season will be one of its longest.
As of now, Sony and Bungie have not publicly commented on the layoffs or delays, but we will update this post when they do say more about it.

You need to read this free Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 prequel comic

While Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is supposed to come out sometime this fall, we don't actually have that much information on the video game's narrative or any other differences from its predecessors. That's why those looking forward to the game should check out the Marvel's Spider-Man 2 prequel comic, which was previously released physically, but is now available for free on Marvel's website.
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 (2023) No. 1, which was written by Christos Gage and illustrated by Ig Guara, was released physically on May 6 for Free Comic Book Day. Now, just a few days later, Insomniac Games and Marvel have followed up on their promise to make the book available digitally for free, so you can easily read it on Marvel.com.
It's a breezy read that doesn't contain many shocking revelations, but gives more context on what Peter Parker, Miles Morales, and Mary Jane Watson have been up to since the events of Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales. In terms of new villains introduced here that could show up in the game, the Spider-Men fight The Tarantula, an arachnid-themed assassin, and The Hood, a gang leader who's trying to use magic for personal gain.
On the more character-focused side of things, we learn that Peter, Miles, and MJ are now all working together as a tight crime-fighting unit. Peter is now trying to get a teaching certificate and to convince MJ to move in with him. As Peter now lives in Aunt May and Uncle Ben's old house in Queens, that could mean we'll get to explore more boroughs of New York City in Marvel's Spider-Man 2. Meanwhile, Miles decides to pursue a Music Technology major at Empire State University, and J. Jonah Jameson decides to buy back ownership of the Daily Bugle. 
There's little more than a passing mention of Norman Osborn, and we don't see Harry Osborn, Kraven, or Venom in action, so there aren't any must-know reveals from this free comic. Still, it's worth a read if you want to get reacquainted with this Marvel universe, the headspace of the heroes within it, and the gadgets they use ahead of Marvel's Spider-Man 2's launch. 
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will release exclusively for PlayStation 5 sometime this fall.
