Turntable.fm launches iPhone app, collects $7 million in funding

Ever since Turntable.fm launched in May, people have been waiting for the social music site to release a mobile app. Well, the wait is over… for iPhone users, at least.

The site released its eagerly anticipated iPhone app today (September 14), but that wasn’t all the news it had to be excited about. The popular streaming music site also confirmed that it raised $7 million in funding.

It’s been rumored for a while now that Turntable.fm was working on some form of iOS integration for its site, which allows users to play DJ for each other in themed rooms and vote up (or down) the music being played. Certain avatar-related goodies are unlocked for those who play “awesome” music, and users can either upload their own music to play or choose from the site’s extensive library of tracks.

While there are reports of some speed issues with the new iPhone app when entering rooms and switching DJs, the general consensus seems to be positive for the site’s first foray into the iOS world.

As for that $7 million in funding, the most recent funding round was led by Union Square Ventures, according to PCMag.com. The site also reports speculation that Kanye West and Lady Gaga are investors in the site, though that remains unconfirmed at this point.

There’s no word on when an Android version of the app will become available.

Nomad’s new iPhone case and Apple Watch band may be its coolest yet
Nomad Glow 2.0 Sport Case and Apple Watch Sport Band in daylight.

Though the world of Apple accessories is a dime a dozen, one of the better brands that you can buy is Nomad. Nomad has a variety of amazing leather Apple Watch bands and cases, as well as non-leather options, too. In August 2023, Nomad released a one-of-a-kind Glow in the Dark Apple Watch band that sold out in about 12 hours.

Since that Glow in the Dark band was a limited edition, no one was sure if Nomad was going to re-release it, and this explains the high resale prices you’ll find on eBay. But Nomad just released the Glow 2.0 Apple Watch Sport Band as well as a new Glow 2.0 Sport Case for the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. And, yes, they're just as wonderful as before.
