The new Galaxy S4 Mini shrinks Samsung’s flagship down to a more manageable size

Samsung spent more of its Summer Premiere event showing off demos of its Galaxy S4 Zoom and Active, but the average phone consumer likely had their eyes focused on the Galaxy S4 Mini. The little brother to the popular Galaxy S4 handset is for those that know that a “smartphone is a fashion statement,” according to Jean Daniel Ayme, VP of European Telecommunications for Samsung.

Advertised as “compact yet extremely powerful,” the Galaxy S4 Mini attempts to squeeze the amenities of a larger phone in a smaller package. It features a 4.3-inch qHD Super AMOLED display and is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset and a dual-core, 1.7GHz Krait CPU, with a 1,900mAh battery providing juice. You’ll be able to capture the world around you on the 8-megapixel rear camera and 1.9-megapixel front-facing camera.

While the Galaxy S4 Mini isn’t quite as flashy as the Active or the Zoom, it’s likely the most practical device shown on stage at the Premiere event. Though there’s no water to dunk the phone in or lens to swap out for picture taking, the Mini positions itself nicely as a consumer-friendly option that offers plenty of functionality in a simple and smaller package. No price or release date was mentioned during the event, but we expect the Mini will make its way over to the US sometime in July.

Samsung’s Galaxy AI is about to get a lot more useful

Not long after releasing it for a handful of flagship phones from 2023, Samsung has just announced a substantial update to its Galaxy AI platform. More specifically, a lot more people will soon be able to use Galaxy AI as Samsung is updating it to work with more languages and dialects.

At some point this spring, Galaxy AI will support Arabic, Indonesian, and Russian languages. Samsung's also adding Australian English, Cantonese, and Canadian French dialects.
