Samsung Galaxy Tab S images leak, showing ultra-thin tablet

Galaxy Tab Event June 20

Samsung is expected to launch its new Galaxy Tab S lineup on June 12 at an event in New York City. Less than a week before the event, pictures of the 10.5-inch version of the tablet leaked online, revealing a very slim design.

In one of the pictures obtained by SamMobile, you can clearly see that the tablet measures just 6.6 millimeters, which is almost a full millimeter thinner than the 7.5-millimeter thick iPad Air. Another picture boasts that the 10.5-inch Galaxy Tab S is very light weight, coming in at just 465 grams. Even though the iPad Air is smaller, it weighs slightly more at 469 grams. To be fair, it is made of aluminum instead of plastic like the Galaxy Tab S, though. Other photos of the device show its signature Samsung look and what appears to be the same dimpled faux leather texture seen on the Galaxy S5.

One image shows that the S Tab lineup will sync with some Samsung smartphones, so that you can answer phone calls on your tablet. Apple recently announced a similar feature called Handoff for iOS 8, which allows iPhone users to take calls on their Mac. You’ll also be able to use the Remote PC feature on the Galaxy S Tab.

According to earlier reports, Samsung will release an 8.4-inch and a 10.5-inch S Tab. Both tablets in the Galaxy Tab S lineup will feature 2560×1600 pixel resolution displays and be powered by the octa-core Exynos 5420 processor with Mali-T628 graphics. The tablets will sport 3GB of RAM, an 8-megapixel back camera, and 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera. Samsung will offer 32GB of storage right out of the box, but if you need more space, you can expand it with a MicroSD card.  The tablets will run Android 4.4.2 KitKat, of course, but they will also receive the controversial Samsung Magazine UX interface.

We will most likely see these two tablets next week at the Samsung Premiere event, but the devices aren’t expected to go on sale until the end of the month. Pre-orders should start right after the event.
