After inducing 4K whiplash with its shockingly affordable P-series 4K UHD TVs, Vizio today announced the coming launch of several new 4K UHD apps for its new model that will soon join Netflix to fill out the company’s 4K UHD content catalog.

Leading the pack in Vizio’s new lineup is Amazon Instant Video’s new 4K service, which brings on new Amazon originals including the critically-adored Transparent, season 2 of Alpha House, and other Amazon original series coming in the new year. The service will also let users purchase select movies in 4K UHD, and access them through Amazon’s cloud services.

Other new apps that will bring coveted 4K UHD content to Vizio’s new P-series include Ultraflix, which offers a wide array of nature films and other select 4K UHD titles, and Toon Goggles which offers a variety of children’s programming. Exactly when Vizio P-series owners will get the new content remains to be seen, but it appears the rollout will begin early in 2015 as the press release promises consumers will “soon enjoy” the new content.

In addition, Vizio has added updates to regular versions of apps like Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, iHeartRadio, Hulu Plus, Spotify, Plex, AirCastLive and Youtube, promising users “quicker, easier access to their favorite content,” and a “more fluid user experience.”

Vizio shocked the industry with the announcement of its price shattering 4K UHD TVs in September, starting at $1,000 for the 50-inch model, and moving up to a very attractive $2,500 for the 70-inch model, which can often be found at a lower prices online. While we don’t recommend going any smaller than a 55-inch size to take advantage of the 4K UHD’s immense pixel density, even Vizio’s biggest model is relatively affordable, helping to lower price of entry for this technology. Today’s news makes the sets even more attractive.

We will continue to monitor this story and update when the new content becomes available, so stay tuned.
