OnePlus has something up its sleeve for April, but what is it?

OnePlus loves to tease its fan club with hints about its future plans. The latest teaser from OnePlus isn’t about the rumored OnePlus Two smartphone, nor is it about a tablet or the One smartwatch we heard about earlier on. OnePlus says it’s something that’s altogether different, but what is it?

“It’s not a tablet, and it’s not a smartwatch,” OnePlus coyly writes, “But it is a game changer.”

OnePlus didn’t give away too much in its blog post, but based on process of elimination and the few teaser images the company posted, it seems likely that OnePlus’ next venture has to do with either gaming or some other kind of media consumption device. The first image says, “Start a new game,” and shows a glowing, red dot in the center. The next one, shows a hand-drawn number one, and reads, “For the fun of it,” and the last one states, “You’re in control,” with an image of a pair of hands that appear to be holding something, although nothing is there.

All of these pictures put together, seem to lead to one conclusion: OnePlus has a gaming device up its sleeve. The microconsole market is beginning to look a little crowded, especially with Nvidia’s and Razer’s entries on the horizon. Of course, it could also be a portable gaming handset or some kind of controller for the OnePlus.

Of course, all this is speculation, and none of it is terribly original. We’ll have to wait and see until April to find out what OnePlus is announcing. In the meantime, we’ll keep you posted here.

It’s an exciting time for Android tablets. Into the vacuum left in 2023 by Apple’s first-ever dearth of new iPads stepped two new contenders offering distinct takes on what a tablet should be, while Samsung’s venerable Tab S9 lineup raised the bar by cementing the position of its largest tablet and bringing AMOLED screens to the entire family.

There’s no reason to believe that this year will be any less interesting as Samsung continues to up its game while Google and OnePlus try to refine their initial first-generation efforts into more mature products.

PlayStation has a secret weapon up its sleeve: the Hero Project

The video game industry is changing. As financial growth stagnates, companies like PlayStation have experimented with ways to adapt as markets and trends change. Where it was once able to rely on its first-party blockbusters to build and maintain an audience, it is looking more likely that it will need to invest in new strategies to prepare for the ways the industry is shifting. We see this with a bigger push into live-service and mobile games, but there's another initiative that isn't going to pay dividends in the near future but could set the groundwork for future success: the Hero Project.

Sony's Hero Project isn't a widely publicized or highlighted initiative -- even by PlayStation. Still, it's something every PlayStation owner should be aware of. It has the potential to be its secret weapon in the long run.
The world needs heroes
PlayStation's Hero Project is currently in its fourth iteration. Beginning in 2016, it kicked off with three rounds of the China Hero Project and has currently expanded to include the India Hero Project. The goal of these initiatives is to allow game developers from said countries to pitch their games directly to a special PlayStation committee. If accepted, Sony will then offer the team support with finances, technologies, marketing, and occasionally publishing.

OnePlus has had a very solid start to 2024 with the release of the OnePlus 12 and the OnePlus 12R. While both phones look very similar, one is a flagship, while the other is a more budget-friendly option with slightly lesser specs.

Though both devices' cameras appear similar at first glance, they’re actually quite different. In addition to different specs, only the OnePlus 12 has Hasselblad branding, meaning that it has better color calibration, white balance and exposure, and more. In short, photos you take with the OnePlus 12’s Hasselblad camera are probably going to look better.
