Sony PlayStation Vue expanding slowly but surely, adds Dallas and Miami

Sony’s PlayStation Vue streaming web TV service launched earlier this year, but while competitor Sling TV is widely available, PlayStation Vue has only been available in a few select cities. Now the service’s reach is expanding a little further with the addition of two new cities.

Starting today, PlayStation Vue is available to PS3 and PS4 owners in the Dallas-Fort Worth and Miami-Fort Lauderdale areas, Sony announced on its PlayStation Blog. It’s likely just a coincidence that both new service areas include the word “Fort” in their names, but it does leave us curious. It seems Fortuitous.

PlayStation Vue offers three pricing tiers — Access, Core, and Elite — that start at $50 and top out at $70. In addition to a fairly large stable of channels, the service offers a few features that competitor Sling TV doesn’t, like the cloud DVR, which allows users to queue up shows in the same way they would using a cable or satellite DVR.

All PlayStation Vue subscribers will get a new programming option later this summer as Fox Soccer Plus becomes available on the service, just in time for the UEFA Champions League. Unlike other programming, Fox Soccer Plus is available as a standalone channel for $15 per month, though PlayStation Plus members get it for a discounted price at $13.

This brings the total number of cities that can access PlayStation Vue up to seven. In addition to the newly added Dallas and Miami, the service is available in New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Los Angeles.

Sony is still working on bringing PlayStation Vue to more cities, but it isn’t clear if it will add more this year, or if this will be it until 2016.

Sony outlined all the new offerings PlayStation Plus Essential subscribers can expect in April; surprisingly, Microsoft is the company behind two of this month's four offerings, Minecraft Legends, and the Overwatch 2 Mega Bundle.

On April 2, PS Plus can get those two things free of charge in addition to Immortals of Aveum and Skul: The Hero Slayer. Immortals of Aveum is a single-player shooter where players use magic instead of weapons. Although the thing it's most notable for is flopping upon its release, Immortals of Aveum is still a solid shooter that you might have missed out on, and you should give it a shot now that you can get it through PS Plus. Meanwhile, Skul: The Hero Slayer is a tough 2D platformer roguelike that should entertain fans of that genre for quite some time.

PlayStation VR2 production reportedly paused by Sony

Sony is reportedly pausing production of the PlayStation VR2 headsets because it has a backlog of unsold headsets.

This report comes from Bloomberg, which claims that PSVR2 sales have slowed every quarter since its February 2023 release, causing stocks of the device to build up. It says Sony has produced 2 million headsets but reportedly hasn't sold through them yet. As a result, it's apparently pausing the production on new units until it works through some of that backlog, according to Bloomberg's anonymous sources.

Does PlayStation 5 have a web browser?

Sony added a bunch of great functionality to PS5, but one thing that's missing is a web browser. Unlike its predecessor, PS4, there's not a standard web browser you can access from your home screen. That's a bit of a letdown, as it feels like a huge step back from what was available years ago.

Thankfully, all is not lost. With a little elbow grease and a lot of ingenuity, you can access a web browser on PS5. The process is quite convoluted, and it's not the most user-friendly browser, but it's possible to surf the web on your fancy new-gen console.
