The rumor mill has been stirring for a few weeks on this smartphone, and the newest leak reveals most of the specifications for the Galaxy O7. Published on AnTuTu, the benchmark model number correlates with previous Galaxy O7 leaks.
Internally, the Galaxy O7 runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 410 processor, 1GB of RAM, and the Adreno 306 GPU. Those are low-end specs, pointing to a push back into the South-East Asian and African markets where Samsung has lost ground.
On the front of the device sits a 5.5-inch HD (1,280 x 720 pixel) display and a 5-megapixel camera. On the back, a 13-megapixel sensor should take decent shots. We are surprised Samsung is so heavily invested in the cameras for a low-end smartphone. Especially when you consider that most operators lower the camera quality heavily.
The Galaxy O7 is running Android Lollipop 5.1.1 on the benchmark. Unless Samsung plans to launch the smartphone in the winter, it will most likely launch with Lollipop instead of Marshmallow — Android’s newest operating system update.
Samsung has not released any information on price or the release date for the Galaxy O7. We are still not sure if it will be called the Galaxy O7 when it launches, with rumors of Galaxy Mega On and other funky names.
Based on the number of leaks, we suspect the smartphone will be available before the end of the year, and will cost less than $200 off contract.
Xiaomi, Micromax, and a few other local providers have trumped Samsung in Asia, leading to a massive downturn in sales for the mobile provider. The South Korean giant wants to rebuild the trust it won with customers in the region, providing a whole new range of smartphones dedicated to the budget market.
