Diablo 2 Resurrection, Diablo 4 headline first day of Blizzcon 2021

Blizzcon 2021 kicked off with a batch of exciting game announcements, headlined by a Diablo 2 remaster. The showcase also highlighted Diablo 4, Blizzard Arcade Collection, new World of Warcraft updates, and more.

The long-rumored Diablo 2 remaster was finally shown off following weeks of speculation. Diablo 2 Resurrected is a full HD remaster of the original game and its expansion, Lord of Destruction. The rerelease will allow players to play the game in its original 2D form. The game is coming this year to PC, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox with cross-progression.

Blizzard also gave some new details on Diablo 4. The classic rogue class is coming to the game, a fast character that fights with various bow and arrow abilities.

Blizzard Arcade Collection is a new retro game bundle that includes The Lost Vikings, Rock n’ Roll Racing, and Blackthorn. All three classic games are faithful ports with some added features and quality of life improvements, such as saving and loading. The collection will be available on PC via Battle.net, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.

World of Warcraft is getting its first new update since the launch of Shadowlands. The new DLC is called Chains of Destruction, and Blizzard will discuss more details during Blizzcon weekend. World of Warcraft Classic is getting an update as well, a new version of 2007’s Burning Crusade update, which launches in 2021.

Hearthstone is getting an update called Forged in the Barrens, which brings new cards to the game. In addition, the deckbuilding game is getting a new single-player mode called Mercenaries, which is a take on the roguelike genre.

Unfortunately, Overwatch 2 was a no-show at the presentation, but more details on it are coming later this weekend during Blizzcon.

Diablo 2: Resurrected beta is a ghost that haunts my memories
Archangel Tyreal holding a soul shard

It is the year 2000 and my brothers and I convinced my parents to buy us Diablo 2 for our family's Mac desktop. One of us would play the game while the other two hovered over the computer chair waiting anxiously for their turn. I started off as a Barbarian, with two giant axes in my hand as I traveled across Tristram, killing every demon that I came across. Blood and guts poured out of these demons as they gasped horribly during their final breaths. I was nine years old.

It is 2021 and I got access to the beta for Diablo 2: Resurrected for my gaming PC. My brothers are interested in the game but did not get into the beta. At least for now, I will be playing alone. I chose the Druid this time and once again set off into Tristram to surround myself with the blood of dead demons and piles of loot. I am now 30 years old.

E3 2021 Day 4 recap: Nintendo delivers the Direct fans have always wanted
Link runs across Hyrule in the sequel to Breath of the Wild.

The biggest gaming event of the year is in full swing. E3 is back after taking 2020 off due to the coronavirus pandemic. This year, it’s an all-digital event featuring several of gaming’s biggest publishers. Things are much more confusing this time around, though. Events like Summer Game Fest have splintered the gaming reveal landscape, turning the entire month of June into something of a mega expo.

In fact, some of the biggest announcements of the month came before the event even started. EA chose to reveal Battlefield 2042 on its own time, while Summer Game Fest snagged the coveted Elden Ring trailer reveal. Still, there’s plenty of news left in the tank for E3 proper. Here’s our recap of the event, which we will update every day with new information.
Day 4: Nintendo makes up for an uneven show
It's not clear how E3 2021 is going to be remembered overall by gaming fans. We're way too close to the event and emotions are running high. Some days had players thrilled, while others had them declaring the show's death. One thing's for sure though: Nintendo delivered one of its best Direct presentations ever during the event.
