Is XDefiant free?

XDefiant
Ubisoft

XDefiant is a compelling first-person shooter that Ubisoft has positioned as a direct competitor to games like Call of Duty, and it seems to be paying off so far with plenty of buzz about the game. Now that it’s available for everyone to dive into, excitement is at an all-time high, so it makes sense that you may be wondering what the hype is all about. Of course, with game prices getting so expensive these days, you may also be wondering whether it’s going to cost you to check out XDefiant. We’ve got some good news for you below.

Is XDefiant free?

Put simply: Yes, XDefiant is a free-to-play game. You can download the game on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, or PC right now and jump into some matches without paying a dime.

However, like similar free live service games, such as Fortnite or Apex Legends, XDefiant is monetized via microtransactions. This means you can purchase things like character and weapon skins, animations, and more using real money — though Ubisoft has promised that these are purely cosmetic and will never grant a competitive advantage to players who buy them.

Unsurprisingly, XDefiant also features Battle Passes, a common system in the free live service realm where players pay a small fee to access a reward track. This can be leveled up during a specific window of time (usually a few months) to earn in-game cosmetics, weapons, and more. Check out XDefiant‘s Preseason Battle Pass for a taste of what to expect from the game going forward.

Death Stranding 2: release date speculation, trailers, gameplay, and more
Sam Bridges walks on a ridge in front of the moon.

There were plenty of hints along the way, and even some leaks by the leading man himself, but it was only made official at the Game Awards 2022 that Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is on its way. Coming from the same influential and creative mind as the original, as well as the Metal Gear franchise before it, Hideo Kojima introduced the game himself. Of course, nothing about Kojima's games are straight forward, and what was revealed about Death Stranding 2 probably raised more questions than it answered. We're strapping on our boots, connecting to our BBs, and are ready to make the trek to find out everything there is about Death Stranding 2.
Release date speculation

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach only has the wide release window of 2025.

Two men look at an election poster for Guybrush in Sea of Thieves.

If recent numbers are anything to go by, Xbox's recent strategy change, which involves porting some first-party Xbox games to other competing consoles, has already been successful after just a few months.

PlayStation revealed its top downloaded games for May in a blog posted on Thursday for both the PlayStation 5 and 4. While it doesn't list exact numbers, the top game for the U.S., Canada, and the EU is Sea of Thieves, which made its way over from Xbox console exclusivity on April 30.

Elden Ring players are already struggling to beat Shadow of the Erdtree
The hand-to-hand combat style in Shadow of the Erdtree.

Difficulty is a well-known hallmark of FromSoftware games, and so the fact people are experiencing issues in the new Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, even against even common enemies, is unsurprising. However, even veteran players appear to be struggling. Many have taken to Steam to negatively review the game, which is now sitting at "Mixed" at the time of this writing.

Some of these complaints also cite performance issues, including stuttering and dropped frame rate. Publisher Bandai Namco and FromSoftware haven't commented on any upcoming fixes.
