Star Wars Jedi: Survivor: release date, trailers, preorders, and more

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is among the most critically acclaimed games set in a galaxy far, far away. Players followed Cal Kestis, played by Cameron Monaghan, in his journey to kick-start the Jedi Order after Emperor Palpatine famously ordered them all slaughtered. His journey of self-discovery was one many gamers could relate to and are excited to continue in the sequel Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.

Developers at EA, Respawn, and Lucasfilm Games have only given fans a taste of what Survivor has in store for them with two trailers, but they are promising an epic new Star Wars story. The dark, mysterious, and menacing tones were what director Stig Asmussen hoped to convey, foreshadowing the Fallen Order sequel. Here’s everything we know about Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will be available on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC.

Developers made no mention of last-gen systems, and Asmussen’s praise of current-gen capabilities makes it sound like Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is built for modern consoles.

The official teaser trailer for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor dropped on May 27, 2022. While it doesn’t tell as much regarding official gameplay mechanics, new editions, and overall plot, we can confirm a few things based on the 90-second clip.

Cal Kestis returns in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor alongside his trusty droid companion, BD-1. His lightsaber falls into the Empire’s hands, and he’s forced to seek help, perhaps from the man we see in the bacta tank toward the end. In the end, one lingering question remains: “What is your next move, Jedi?”

The official reveal trailer shown at the Game Awards 2022 gave us a closer look at how Cal Kestis has made himself “the Empire’s most wanted.” Kestis is still fighting the Empire, but it continues to grow stronger. “As long as we fight, hope survives,” he says over a montage of Kestis slaying giant beasts, Stormtroopers, and capable warriors. One thing is for certain, Survivor is going to be a lot darker that its predecessor.

An official story trailer released on March 20, 2023, introduces some old friends of main character Cal Kestis — namely Merrin and Greez Ditzus — and shows off some complex combat gameplay and a little puzzle-solving.

Gameplay

Players fell in love with Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order’s gameplay mechanics. It was a fresh take on Star Wars games of old, borrowing a few mechanics from the Dark Souls series. Then again, Dark Souls and now Elden Ring basically wrote the book on how to make an exciting action/adventure RPG.

Asmussen spoke of three significant “pillars” that worked with Jedi: Fallen Order: Combat, exploration, and story. As long as they don’t fix what isn’t broken, players can expect the same gameplay mechanics in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.

If Respawn can borrow just one more teeny-tiny thing from Dark Souls, it would be warping between spawn points. In Fallen Order, players could rest at spawn points to recover their health and reset the world. However, they were stuck traversing back the way they came, often through a one-way labyrinth of enemies, hazards, and puzzles.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order prided itself on being a single-player, story-driven game. There’s no reason to expect Survivor will divert from that path. Those looking to duel other players with lightsabers will have to stick with Star Wars Battlefront II.

For multiplayer to work, it has to make sense within the overarching story. As it stands, the story of the Star Wars Jedi franchise doesn’t support multiplayer. If anything, it would feel forced, as fan service shoehorned into the final product.

DLC

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order never got any DLC that advanced the overarching plot of the story. Instead, players got a May the 4th update in 2020 that added a few exciting mechanics to the game. They could compete in mediation training to hone their skills, which gave them new challenges to complete.

Aside from the survival-like mini-game, the free DLC update introduced a few new cosmetics and red lightsabers, showing off Cal’s darker side. Fallen Order‘s lack of DLC concerned some players and critics, while others seemed content with the base game. So, will Star Wars Jedi: Survivor have DLC post-launch? We can’t say for sure. Perhaps we can expect a special May the 4th, 2023 update.

2XKO: release date window, trailers, gameplay, and more

After spending years under the working title of Project L, Riot Games' expansion into the fighting game genre has officially been dubbed 2XKO. Hailing from the makers of the massively popular League of Legends, this fighter will feature a cast pulled right from that MOBA, but now using far different mechanics. This genre was once notorious for how hard it was for newcomers to get into, but recent examples like Street Fighter 6 and Tekken 8 have proven that it is possible to make the genre accessible to more players. Considering the popularity of the source material here, and the fact that it will be free to play, we expect a lot of players who normally don't touch fighters to at least be curious. Whoever you are, let's start at round one and go over everything we know so far about 2XKO.
Release date window

Along with the reveal of the title's full name, we also learned that 2XKO is set to arrive sometime in 2025. That leaves a lot of room, so odds are the team is giving itself plenty of time to iron out any issues.
