Star Wars Jedi: Survivor: release date, trailers, preorders, and more

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is among the most critically acclaimed games set in a galaxy far, far away. Players followed Cal Kestis, played by Cameron Monaghan, in his journey to kick-start the Jedi Order after Emperor Palpatine famously ordered them all slaughtered. His journey of self-discovery was one many gamers could relate to and are excited to continue in the sequel Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.

Developers at EA, Respawn, and Lucasfilm Games have only given fans a taste of what Survivor has in store for them with two trailers, but they are promising an epic new Star Wars story.  The dark, mysterious, and menacing tones were what director Stig Asmussen hoped to convey, foreshadowing the Fallen Order sequel. Here’s everything we know about Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will be available on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC.

Developers made no mention of last-gen systems, and Asmussen’s praise of current-gen capabilities makes it sound like Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is built for modern consoles.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor - Official Teaser

The official teaser trailer for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor dropped on May 27, 2022. While it doesn’t tell as much regarding official gameplay mechanics, new editions, and overall plot, we can confirm a few things based on the 90-second clip.

Cal Kestis returns in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor alongside his trusty droid companion, BD-1. His lightsaber falls into the Empire’s hands, and he’s forced to seek help, perhaps from the man we see in the bacta tank toward the end. In the end, one lingering question remains: “What is your next move, Jedi?”

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor - Official Reveal Trailer

The official reveal trailer shown at the Game Awards 2022 gave us a closer look at how Cal Kestis has made himself “the Empire’s most wanted.” Kestis is still fighting the Empire, but it continues to grow stronger. “As long as we fight, hope survives,” he says over a montage of Kestis slaying giant beasts, Stormtroopers, and capable warriors. One thing is for certain, Survivor is going to be a lot darker that its predecessor.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor - Official Story Trailer

An official story trailer released on March 20, 2023, introduces some old friends of main character Cal Kestis — namely Merrin and Greez Ditzus — and shows off some complex combat gameplay and a little puzzle-solving.

Gameplay

Players fell in love with Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order’s gameplay mechanics. It was a fresh take on Star Wars games of old, borrowing a few mechanics from the Dark Souls series. Then again, Dark Souls and now Elden Ring basically wrote the book on how to make an exciting action/adventure RPG.

Asmussen spoke of three significant “pillars” that worked with Jedi: Fallen Order: Combat, exploration, and story. As long as they don’t fix what isn’t broken, players can expect the same gameplay mechanics in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.

If Respawn can borrow just one more teeny-tiny thing from Dark Souls, it would be warping between spawn points. In Fallen Order, players could rest at spawn points to recover their health and reset the world. However, they were stuck traversing back the way they came, often through a one-way labyrinth of enemies, hazards, and puzzles.

Multiplayer

Cal Kestis squares off against an unknown enemy.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order prided itself on being a single-player, story-driven game. There’s no reason to expect Survivor will divert from that path. Those looking to duel other players with lightsabers will have to stick with Star Wars Battlefront II.

For multiplayer to work, it has to make sense within the overarching story. As it stands, the story of the Star Wars Jedi franchise doesn’t support multiplayer. If anything, it would feel forced, as fan service shoehorned into the final product.

DLC

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order never got any DLC that advanced the overarching plot of the story. Instead, players got a May the 4th update in 2020 that added a few exciting mechanics to the game. They could compete in mediation training to hone their skills, which gave them new challenges to complete.

Aside from the survival-like mini-game, the free DLC update introduced a few new cosmetics and red lightsabers, showing off Cal’s darker side. Fallen Order‘s lack of DLC concerned some players and critics, while others seemed content with the base game. So, will Star Wars Jedi: Survivor have DLC post-launch? We can’t say for sure. Perhaps we can expect a special May the 4th, 2023 update.

  • Preorder bonus “Jedi Survival” cosmetic pack

Skull and Bones: release date speculation, trailers, gameplay, and more
Two ships fire cannons at each other other a small island in Skull & Bones.

Ubisoft has a few notoriously troubled games in development that have left fans scratching their heads for years now. Aside from Beyond Good and Evil 2, the most curious game that has managed to avoid cancellation despite years of delays, restarts, and who knows what else behind the scenes is the pirate game Skull and Bones. It was first announced in 2017, and we've gotten almost nothing but bad news regarding this title in the years since. Despite having a playable build in 2018, for press only, the game has undergone major, if not complete overhauls.

Promised as a fully fleshed-out game built around the incredibly popular ship combat featured in Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, Skull and Bones was poised to make a big splash following that game's success. Gamers loved all the pirate activities seen in that game, so expanding on that should've been an easy move. However, public statements about the game have almost completely vanished, leaving many gamers high and dry regarding the status of this pirate epic. We pulled out our compass, plotted our course, and dug up all the details on Skull and Bones that you need to know.

Exoprimal: release date, trailers, gameplay, and more
A group of players fights a T-Rex in Exoprimal.

Warning: There's been a crisis detected. You might call it a dino crisis, but Capcom won't. Exoprimal may look like the long-awaited revival of the Resident Evil spinoff series that replaced zombies with dinosaurs for a new twist on survival horror, but it's not. It's a new IP entirely.

Revealed at the March 2022 State of Play showcase, Exoprimal was a very unexpected announcement from Capcom. We didn't know what to expect going into the showcase, let alone that Capcom would be there with a brand new game. Unlike its other popular ongoing series and recent output of new IP, Exoprimal appears to take itself a bit less seriously, judging by the trailer and premise -- and it looks like a ton of fun. While it might not be the next Dino Crisis as some had hoped, here's everything we know about the chaotic dinosaur-filled shooter game Exoprimal.
