You might think that headphones and wallets don’t have a whole lot in common, but they do when it comes to leather. French company Aëdle offers the best of both worlds by specializing in headphones and “travel instruments” — think wallets, pouches, and sleeves. One thing the company hasn’t offered to date is wireless headphones, but that all changes with the launch of the company’s VK-X wireless headphones.

The Aëdle VK-X might be the company’s first wireless headphones, but you wouldn’t be able to tell that while based on the feature set you’ll see while headphone shopping. The headphones feature a 24-bit DAC for wired use, and a handful of the best audio codecs for wireless use, with support for AptX HD, AAC, and LDAC. The 40mm custom drivers use a titanium membrane and neodymium magnets, and built-in active noise canceling (ANC) helps keep loud conversations and other noise at bay.

The headphones are constructed using CNC machined stainless steel and aluminum to keep the weight down. The headphones are finished in genuine lambskin leather from the south of France, while the entire design is collapsible for easy portability. An included hard case keeps the headphones protected.

Battery life is claimed as being anywhere from 14 to 24 hours, depending on the volume you’re listening at and whether or not you’re using the ANC. The headphones make use of a USB-C connector, which is handy if you’re looking to use the charger you use with your new phone with the headphones. Fast charging means you can charge the headphones in less than 30 minutes.

Aëdle plans to launch the VK-X headphones in November, but if you’re looking to get your hands on them early and get a discount while you’re at it, the company is launching with a limited availability Indiegogo campaign that starts June 14. The very first batch is limited to 1,000 units, sold on a first come, first served basis.

While the headphones will eventually retail for $650, those who pre-order via the Indiegogo campaign will get them for $325 to $400. For more information, see the Aëdle website. Focal’s first wireless speakers are a tech tour de force with a price to match
Focal Diva Utopia.

Calling Focal's Diva Utopia a set of "wireless speakers" may be like calling a Ferrari Enzo Ferrari "a sports car," and yet that's fundamentally what these $39,999, 47-inch-tall, floor-standing monoliths are. Linking the left and right sides is an ultra wideband (UWB) wireless connection, which Focal says can transmit up to 24-bit/96kHz lossless hi-res audio "with imperceptible latency." Should you have the available funds, they can be ordered starting October 2 from Focal Powered By Naim boutiques.

UWB technology is known for its extremely fast data rates, which can exceed 1Gbps, but it typically only works over very short distances. However, Focal says the Focal Utopia's UWB connection is stable up to a distance of 10 meters (about 32 feet), which should be more than enough to achieve good stereo separation. Focal recommends a minimum of 5 meters between the speakers. The UWB connection may work at longer distances, but you'll need to make sure there are no obstructions to the signal.

Marshall updates its Monitor headphones with a little help from Billie Joe Armstrong
Marshall Monitor III ANC worn by Billie Joe Armstrong.

Marshall has updated its Monitor ANC wireless headphones, which are now in their third generation. The new cans keep the same overall design as previous Monitor ANC models, but now include Marshall's Soundstage spatial audio technology and a much bigger battery for up to 100 hours of playtime. You can buy the Monitor III ANC for $349 -- a $30 increase over the previous model -- starting September 24.

To highlight the launch of the new model, Marshall has partnered with Green Day frontman and guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong, who's a longtime user of Marshall's guitar amps. Marshall says that the Monitor III ANC inject "some desperately needed rock ‘n’ roll into the monotonous world of noise-canceling headphones," while Armstrong provides a slightly more punk perspective: "What better way to flip off the world than to put your headphones on so it's just you and the music?"

Beyerdynamic launches new flagship wireless earbuds and headphones
Beyerdynamic AMIRON 300 and AVENTHO 300.

Beyerdynamic has revamped its top-of-the line wireless earbuds and wireless headphones with two new models, the Amiron 300 ($280) and Aventho 300 ($400). They'll be available in black or white color options when they go on sale in October.

The naming convention of the new models may confuse some long-time Beyerdynamic fans. Historically, the company has used the Amiron name to refer to its wired and wireless over-ear headphones, like the open-back Amiron Home and the wireless Amiron Wireless. However, the new Amiron 300 are the company's flagship wireless earbuds (the company's first wireless earbuds are the Free Byrd.)
