Slack is down right now. Here’s what we know about the issues [Update]

Updated January 24 @ 10:09 a.m. PT: As of around 10 a.m. PT / 1 p.m. ET, Slack appears to be back up and running like normal. Carry on!

If you rely on Slack to communicate at your job and are having issues with the app, you aren’t alone. At 8:37 a.m. PT / 11:37 a.m. ET, Slack confirmed that it’s down and experiencing “service wide connection issues.”

Prior to Slack’s confirmation, Down Detector saw a huge spike in reports of Slack experiencing connection issues. There was a smaller spike around 5:00 p.m. ET yesterday afternoon, with a much larger spike starting at around 11:00 a.m. ET today.

Per the Slack Status website, Slack has identified “Connections” and “Workflows” issues. For both of them, Slack says, “Some customers are encountering issues connecting and running workflows Slack.”

Slack also confirms that it’s “actively looking into this” and will “report back as more information becomes available.”

In other words, if you’re having trouble logging into or using Slack this morning, this is why. It’s unclear when Slack will have things back up and running, but we’ll keep an eye out for any updates and let you know when things are back to normal.

When iOS 18.2 released just over a week ago, it unlocked a lot of long-awaited features like Image Playground, Visual Intelligence, and improvements to writing tools. Now, it seems like another update could be just around the corner: version 18.2.1.

MacRumors found evidence of the update in their analytic logs, a source that has supposedly revealed quite a few iOS versions before release. Given that this is a minor update, it isn't likely to come with new features or anything groundbreaking. Instead, it will most likely be targeted at bug fixes, although no specific problems have been named. You should expect this update to drop either in late December or early January, but a year-end release is more likely.

If you own a Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, there's some unfortunate news. Several users have reported that the oleophobic coating on their device’s display is wearing off. This coating is designed to repel oils and smudges. Instead, it's causing displays to look (surprise, surprise) dirty, oily, and, in some cases, even scratched, severely diminishing the overall user experience.

As noted by Android Authority, these reports have surfaced primarily on online platforms like X, highlighting a growing concern among users. Rajan Thakur, for example, notes a permanent glass polish mark appearing on their phone. Plyush Baid meanwhile asks a simple question: "What's the point of a screen guard if it makes the anti-reflective coating ineffective?"

Your Google Maps app is about to look different. Here’s what’s changing

If you own an Android device such as a Samsung Galaxy S24 or Google Pixel 9 Pro, there is a small design update coming to the Google Maps app that aims to enhance its visual appearance and user experience. The app will be adopting a new interface color scheme, which could make navigation and interaction feel fresher.

As first reported by 9to5Google, Google Maps is set to change its signature blue accent for buttons and other user interface elements to a dark shade of teal.
