‘Iron Fist’ season 2 premiere date and teaser trailer revealed at Comic-Con

Marvel’s Iron Fist - Season 2 | Date Announcement [HD] | Netflix

Marvel’s kung fu hero Iron Fist didn’t receive the warmest welcome from critics or audiences when his solo series premiered in March, but that didn’t stop Netflix from ordering a second season of the show. The latest update on Iron Fist season 2 confirms the premiere date and offers a sneak peek at the new season.

With the series returning to Netflix on September 7, here’s what we know about Iron Fist season 2 so far.

Premiere date

Marvel and Netflix announced the premiere date for Iron Fist season 2 during the show’s panel at Comic-Con in July. The September 7 premiere date was revealed at the end of a teaser trailer (see above) that debuted during the presentation.

Back in June, Marvel Television’s Jeph Loeb indicated that the second season of Iron Fist will arrive on Netflix in 2018 during a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) session.

The cast

Set in Marvel’s cinematic universe and one of several, interconnected solo series that culminated in this year’s crossover miniseries The Defenders, Iron Fist stars Finn Jones (Game of Thrones) as Danny Rand, a kung fu expert who returns home to New York City with powerful abilities after disappearing 15 years earlier.

The second season will bring back first-season cast members Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing, Tom Pelphrey as Ward Meachum, Jessica Stroup as Joy Meachum, and Sacha Dhawan as Davos. Luke Cage and The Defenders actress Simone Missick will also join Iron Fist, reprising her role as Misty Knight.

Iron Fist will also have at least one prominent new cast member.

In late 2017, actress Alice Eve was added to the cast of the series’ second season. Eve is rumored to be playing the villain Typhoid Mary, a swordsman with powerful abilities in Marvel Comics lore.

“We are very excited to have an actress of Alice’s stature join the cast of Marvel’s Iron Fist,” said Loeb in a statement accompanying the casting announcement (via Variety). “Her exceptional talent brings an intrigue and danger to her character unlike anyone else.”

Eve previously played Starfleet science officer Carol Marcus in 2013’s Star Trek: Into Darkness. More recently, she appeared in the third season of the Netflix series Black Mirror.

The costume

Asked whether fans of the character will eventually see Jones don Iron Fist’s iconic costume from the comics, Loeb stated on Reddit, “You’ll be very happy with Season 2 coming this year!”

Behind the camera

Behind the camera, Iron Fist also added writer Raven Metzner, who previously served as writer and showrunner on Sleepy Hollow. Metzner will take over for first-season showrunner Scott Buck as the new showrunner on Iron Fist for the show’s second season.

Updated July 20 with the first teaser trailer and premiere date for season 2.

Deadpool & Wolverine: Everything we know about the film formerly known as Deadpool 3
Deadpool and Wolverine stand together in Deadpool & Wolverine.

In retrospect, we should have suspected that Deadpool & Wolverine wouldn't keep its most famous co-star out of the title. In 2022, Ryan Reynolds coaxed Hugh Jackman into reprising his role as Wolverine for the first time since 2017's Logan. Once that happened, the name Deadpool 3 didn't fully convey how monumental this film would be.

So Marvel Studios has officially retitled it as Deadpool & Wolverine. Jackman has also humorously rebranded the film as Wolverine & [expletive], which would make this R-rated flick a lot harder to market!

5 years ago, Game of Thrones aired its last great episode. Here’s why it still holds up
Jamie knights Brienne in episode 2 of Game of Thrones season 8.

Many fans would likely agree that Game of Thrones went out not with a bang, but a profound whimper. After dominating pop culture for nearly 10 years, the hit HBO series concluded with a trio of episodes that were universally reviled by both fans and critics alike. The show's lackluster, ham-fisted finale led to its popularity seemingly vanishing into thin air. In the five years since it aired, time hasn't been kind to Game of Thrones season 8.

To this day, many people still discuss the series' final season with a mix of bitterness and disbelief, and those fans won't find any disagreement about the quality of Game of Thrones' last few chapters here. As disappointing as its eighth season remains, though, April 21 marked the five-year anniversary of its noteworthy second episode, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. The fan-favorite installment ranks not only as its season's best chapter, but also as the last great episode that Game of Thrones ever produced.
