Tubi TV, launched by connected TV app creation platform AdRise, offers thousands of hours of classic and fan favorite movies and TV shows for free. Now, thanks to a recently-inked licensing deal with Paramount Pictures, its vault of content will now include 50 films from Paramount’s vast library.

The full list of films to be added has yet to be announced, but fan favorites Basic Instinct and The Hunt for Red October will be released in July and October, respectively. Those films join other Paramount Pictures favorites Top Gun, Wayne’s World 2Black Snake Moan and Star Trek V: The Final Frontier starring the late Leonard Nimoy. Paramount Pictures is not the only Viacom subsidiary heavily represented on Tubi TV. Full seasons for VH1 reality shows such as For The Love of Ray J,  Charm School, and Gotti’s Way are also available.

Tubi TV accounts are free, which means frequent commercials from Monsanto, Verizon and other Tubi TV ad partners.

The video-on-demand market is crowded with major players like Amazon Prime, Netflix and Hulu, but Tubi TV is quick to point out why its service is unique. Tubi TV has a section named “Not on Netflix” for the films and TV shows you can’t get America’s most popular streaming service, no matter how much you pay. Unlike its competitors, Tubi TV also offers playlists of different music genres to stream. Songs from FOX’s hit drama Empire, Wiz Khalifa, Taylor Swift, and more are available through the same portal, right alongside such cinematic achievements as Crocodile Dundee In Los Angeles.

Tubi TV is currently available on the web, in the Google Play store and on iTunes. Tubi TV apps are also available on XBOX 360, Chromecast, Amazon Fire TV, Roku, and will reportedly be coming soon to some smart TV platforms.

In a new TV landscape in which services like HBO Now are charging $15/month, it’s nice to know there are sites like Tubi TV delivering a free service to those who want to binge on hours of classic film and TV.

Following shelter-at-home orders, more people today are subscribed to Netflix than ever. Even so, a new study by American-based data analytics company, JD Power (via Bloomberg), finds that Netflix viewers are facing the least number of service problems than viewers of other streaming platforms.

The report, which surveyed 1,232 U.S. adults in late April, states that Netflix subscribers ran into about 0.7 streaming glitches per hour watched -- followed by Hulu and Amazon Prime Video’s score of 0.11. Disney+ and Google’s YouTube TV, both of which are relatively new services, landed on the 4th and 5th spots at 0.12 and 0.13 respectively.
