Fast Five trailer debuts

Earlier today on Vin Diesel’s Facebook page, for which he has a shockingly high 19.5 million fans, the actor posted the first official trailer for the upcoming fifth movie in the franchise, Fast Five.

The film takes place in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. After the events of the fourth movie, Fast & Furious, Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel), Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker), and Mia Toretto (Jordana Brewster) are forced to flee the country. Once they reach Brazil, the three assemble a crew of friends and drivers to go head to head with a corrupt businessman. But on their tail is the dogged and relentless federal agent Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson), who has sworn to bring them in, but soon discovers that he is not sure which side he is on. You can also probably expect a fair amount of driving and car chases, and probably some big explosions.

The film also brings back several faces familiar to the franchise, including Ludacris and Tyrese Gibson (from the second film, 2 Fast 2 Furious) Matt Schulze (Vince from the original The Fast and the Furious), and many others that have made an appearance throughout the course of the series. Even death can’t stop this crew from re-assembling, as Sung Kang’s (The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift and Fast & Furious) character of Han appears to have pulled a Lazarus and risen from the dead.

A sixth movie in the series is also in the early stages of development.

Fast Five will be directed by Justin Lin (Fast & Furious, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift). It hits theaters on April 29, 2011.

All the villains in the Fast and Furious movies, ranked from worst to best
Shaw points a gun in The Fate of the Furious.

The Fast and Furious franchise has been around for over 20 years now, inundating viewers with everything from neon street racing to exploding submarines. Throughout that time, the franchise has introduced a crowded and colorful rogues' gallery worthy of Batman's. These antagonists admittedly vary in their effectiveness in each installment, but it seems that each evil character is able to provide just enough opportunities for destruction to uphold a nitrous-fueled action franchise. With Fast X, the franchise is bringing in yet another big name with Jason Momoa, who plays the film's villain. Momoa's Dante Reyes marks one of many villains to challenge the Fast crew, and he has some big shoes to fill.

The Fast and Furious franchise has never been renowned for creating compelling villains, but that doesn't mean they're completely forgettable. With bigger movies come villains played by more well-known actors like Charlize Theron. In more than 10 movies, a few villains in the Fast franchise stand above the rest and deserve proper recognition for their entertainingly evil ways.

How to stream the Fast & Furious movies
The cast of the Fast and Furious franchise.

This week, Fast X marks the tenth installment of the Fast & Furious movies, or the eleventh film if you count the spinoff, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw. This franchise is truly the crown jewel of Universal Pictures' modern action flicks. That's why it's so surprising that over half of the Fast & Furious films are not on any of the major streamers. Direct TV and cable television subscribers have the option to stream some of the earlier movies, but it's not ideal if you're already subscribed to any of the half-dozen premium streaming services.

Regardless, we've sorted out where and how you can stream the Fast & Furious movies, if you want to catch up before Fast X arrives on Friday, May 18. Note that the two short prequel films, The Turbo Charged Prelude for 2 Fast 2 Furious and Los Bandoleros, are not available to stream anywhere at the moment.

A crew walks together toward the camera in Fast and Furious 6.

In 2001, an undercover police officer named Brian O'Conner (Paul Walker) infiltrated the world of illegal street racing to investigate a series of heists in The Fast and the Furious. Brian befriends Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel), the alpha and leader of the heists, and the two form an unexpected brotherhood. Dom believes in loyalty, hard work, and most importantly, family, which quickly rubs off on Brian.

Nine films later, these themes remain the backbone of The Fast Saga, which is set to release its 10th installment, Fast X, on May 19. Gone are the days of street racing for pocket change and hijacking trucks for DVD players. Now, the franchise is global as our heroes prevent nuclear war and mass destruction. Speaking of heroes, the cast is a family on and off the set, with many actors reprising their roles they originated over two decades ago. Who are the best members of the family?
