Lenovo delays ThinkPad Helix release to March or April

Lenovo ThinkPad Helix (alternate)Check out our review of the Lenovo ThinkPad Helix convertible.

Lenovo’s ThinkPad Helix was one of the many Windows 8 laptop-tablet hybrids showcased during CES 2013. In our hands-on review of the device, we praised Lenovo for focusing on the Helix’s toughness and durability. Its matte black surface appears to resist scratches better than its shinier competitors. The Helix was supposed to hit the market this February, but according to the company’s reply to an inquiry on its Facebook page, it seems the device won’t be out until March or April.

Lenovo didn’t give any reason for the delay but mentioned that more details will be announced soon. We reached out to the company for a statement, but we’ve yet to hear back as of press time. Fans who’ve been waiting for the device’s release since it was first announced were understandably upset by the delay, one of them even commenting on Lenovo’s Facebook page that he might as well wait for the next generation of laptop-tablet hybrids.

The ThinkPad Helix has an 11.6-inch 1,920 x 1,080 pixel display that can be flipped and reattached so that it faces up when the keyboard is closed, essentially turning it into a tablet. It features a Core i3, i5, or i7 processor, and is equipped with up to 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of SSD storage. When it does become available, it will retail for $1,499.
