‘Forza Horizon 4’ races onto the Xbox One, Windows 10, Xbox Game Pass in October

Forza Horizon 4 is heading to Xbox One consoles, Windows 10, and Xbox Game Pass on October 2, 2018. The news was announced by Ralph Fulton, Playground Games creative director, during Microsoft’s Xbox press event prior to the E3 2018 gaming convention. Along with the announcement, the studio also showcased live gameplay to emphasize how seasons will “change everything” in the upcoming game.

Set in Britain, Forza Horizon 4 will consist of a shared, open world with dynamic seasons, time of day, and weather conditions synchronized across the entire player community. These changes will keep the open-world racing game fresh, with new events taking place each season and world events signaled by a blimp floating overhead. You play with not only the entire community but with the development team as well.

During the Forza Horizon 4 reveal, members from Playground Games jumped on-stage to steer the new McLaren Cena, the Hoonigan Ford Focus starting in the streets of Scotland’s capital, an off-road buggy on Britain’s coastline, and a highly customized Nissan Silvia. The demo showcased the glorious visuals Xbox One X owners will experience with the game’s 60FPS mode, which renders a sharp, detailed world at a buttery 60 frames per second. 

The demo also revealed how players can meet new friends and join teams. Simply pull up next to a car, select the quick chat feature on the D-Pad, and seamlessly enter into co-op mode. “Hello, wanna drift?” one message bubble asks another player. If the first player is also in a group, the second player will be asked to join the “convoy” and they’ll drive off together to watch the sunset.

According to the live demo, world events are dubbed as #Forzathon Live. While the live presentation didn’t really go into detail outside of highlighting the community-driven gameplay, it revealed the current event consisted of three stages, the first of which required players to race to the danger sign. 

In addition to showcasing how the community populates virtual Britain, a big emphasis was placed on the changing seasons. Each season brings its “unique beauty and unique gameplay,” such as the golden leaves highlighting the rolling countryside during the fall. Leaves eventually drop while ice and snow cover the ground and roads once winter arrives, providing a completely new, slippery driving dynamic. 

In the spring, the world is seemingly reborn with lush, green landscapes and new seasonal elements to completely change the driving experience. Throw in the changing time of day, and you’ll feel like you’re driving in a thriving, living world. The demo initially began in the summertime with lots of rain showers spattering on the windshields and roads. 

The first Forza Horizon game launched on the Xbox 360 in late 2012, followed by the second installment in September 2014 and the third installment in September 2016. All three are based on an open-world design, although Forza Horizon 3 was the first in the trio to implement cross-platform play multiplayer support between the Xbox console and Windows PC.

We've learned about which games are coming to Xbox Game Pass between now and December 15, and it's an awesome batch. Some titles are hitting Microsoft's subscription service the day they launch over the next couple of weeks, but the biggest standout in this group of games is one of 2023's biggest sleeper hits: Remnant 2 from Gunfire Games and Gearbox Entertainment. The best part is that it hit the service today.

Remnant II is a multiversal Soulslike shooter that was released on PC and consoles in July. Although it flew under the radar before release, Remnant II was a surprise hit, selling 2 million copies within two months of launch. In particular, we praised the game's compelling boss design as well as its first DLC pack for going bigger and bolder in scope. It's also a looter shooter with rougelite elements, so if you're looking for a new game that will keep you engaged for dozens of hours during the holidays, this sleeper hit is a great choice. Its predecessor, 2019's Remnant: From the Ashes, is also available via Xbox Game Pass now if you want to see where this series began.

One of the year’s best reviewed games is coming to Xbox Game Pass

Microsoft revealed the next batch of games coming to its Xbox Game Pass subscription service this October. While no Activision Blizzard games are coming to the service just yet following that acquisition, one of 2023's best-reviewed games is: this year's Dead Space remake.

Dead Space came out in January and is a stunning remake of a 2008 horror classic. The game follows an engineer named Issac Clarke as he searches for his girlfriend Nicole on a gigantic spaceship called the USG Ishimura. It's overrun by disgusting creatures called Necromorphs, though, leading to plenty of horrific situations as Issacs looks for answers on the ship. The original was an atmospheric and tense horror game, and developer EA Motive only enhanced all of that with this remake that updates the game's visuals and makes some other tweaks to bring the experience more in line with future games in its series and other modern horror games.
It's a great choice if you're looking for a new horror game to play this month, so we recommend checking it out when it hits Xbox Game Pass on October 26. It's not the only game coming to the service during the back half of this month, though. Here's the full list of games coming to Xbox Game Pass throughout the rest of October.

You can’t play Baldur’s Gate 3 on Xbox, but you can play these 6 Game Pass RPGs

Baldur's Gate 3 just launched on PC on August 3 and comes to PlayStation 5 shortly on September 6. Unfortunately, an Xbox Series X/S version of the RPG does not have any concrete release date. Developer Larian Studios explained in a community post that this is because it doesn't "want to compromise on quality and feel it would be a shame to downscale to 30 [frames per second, aka fps] or make other compromises to hit an arbitrary date." Still, it's disappointing that Xbox players can't get in on the fun anytime soon. Thankfully, there isn't a shortage of alternatives on Microsoft's gaming platforms.
Xbox Game Pass is home to dozens of RPGs, many of which share the same computer-RPG roots as Baldur's Gate 3. While Xbox players might not be able to enjoy Larian Studios' shockingly thorough and immensely enjoyable Dungeons & Dragons CRPG just yet, they can't go wrong playing these six titles right now. 
Fallout: New Vegas

Where Baldur's Gate 3 may be the pinnacle of fantasy RPG games inspired by Dungeons & Dragons, Fallout: New Vegas is that for postapocalyptic RPGs. This game from Obsidian Entertainment and Bethesda Softworks -- both of which are now owned by Microsoft -- first released in 2010. Despite some in-game glitches that still persist, the Xbox 360 version of Fallout: New Vegas on Xbox Game Pass is just as enthralling of a role-playing experience as it was nearly 13 years ago. The Xbox 360 version can even be played at 60 fps on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, thanks to the FPS Boost feature.
Like Baldur's Gate 3, it's a faithful follow-up to some classic CRPGs that give players a massive amount of choice as they complete their adventure however they see fit. You can have endless fun exploring the world and creating experiences that feel personal to you while dealing with its eclectic cast of factions and characters. While it's a bit rough around the edges in certain aspects, New Vegas is still one of the best RPGs ever made. As such, it's worth replaying or trying first the first time if you want to play an RPG, but can't experience Baldur's Gate 3 right now.
