As recently as a decade ago, you would most likely be using HDDs for storage, which tend to be quite slow and take up an absolute tone of space, even the smaller form factor ones made for laptops. If you wanted something a bit more fancy, like a modern M.2 SSD, you’d be paying a huge premium even for smaller sizes like 256GB and 512GB. Luckily there have been huge leaps in technology and manufacturing, and these days you can get your hands on the best SSDs for a pretty good price. Not only does that mean that you can save space, but you can also load Windows and your applications a lot faster, something we expect to see in the best gaming PCs and gaming laptops. If you’re looking for something that’s top-of-the-line and won’t break the bank, then the Samsung 990 PRO is probably the way to go. It has the newer PCIe 4.0 standard, which makes it a great PS5 SSD if you can get it a heatsink, and it has a read speed of 7450 Mbps and a write speed of 6900 Mbps, so it’s lightning fast. The 2TB model here has been discounted down to just $190 from the original $250, so you’re saving a pretty solid $60 in the process. There is a 1TB version that’s cheaper if you don’t think you need that much, as well as a 4TB model that’s great for those who have a tendency to hoard data.

Of course, if the Samsung 990 PRO isn’t quite what you’re looking for, there are some other great options you can take advantage of, such as the 980 Pro, which is just one step down and still a pretty good way to go. Of course, there are more budget-friendly options as well if you want to upgrade from an HDD and don’t need the fastest speeds possible. Obviously, the smaller capacity you have, the less it’s going to cost, so if you know you don’t need a lot of storage space, it’s worth going for a smaller size.

Lately, I've been sporting a delightful laptop and projector combo for my nighttime YouTube viewing. It's a weird technicality that lets me get "less screen time" and promotes just watching the video over browsing the same eight sites in rotation. Despite initially hesitating to buy the Logitech K400 Plus, it has turned into something I use nightly, with its USB-A connector taking a near-permanent spot in my laptop. The trackpad is easy to navigate with and, much like I can be accused of having two left feet, it has two left mouse buttons. If you see the bright yellow button in the top left, that's a secondary left mouse button you can use if you want to dual-hand the keyboard like a controller.

There are a lot of excellent uses for widescreen monitors, and one of the best is using them for better immersion when playing video games. If you have a high-end gaming PC that runs something like an RTX 4090, then you'll likely want to pair it with a high-end screen that can take full advantage of all the power you have under the hood. That not only means grabbing something with high resolution but something that can also handle a high refresh rate. Luckily, the Samsung Odyssey G9 can handle both, and more on top of that, given that it's an ultra-widescreen. Of course, it does go for an eye-watering $1,300 at MSRP, but this Memorial Day weekend deal from Samsung brings it down to a more reasonable $800.

Why you should buy the Samsung Odyssey G9
The massive 49-inch, 1000R curved Samsung Odyssey G9 has an absolute ton of tech under the hood, the least of which is the 5,120 x 1,440 resolution and lightning-fast 240Hz refresh rate. Given that it runs at 1440p, that means it won't tax a card like an RTX 4090 at a higher refresh rate, and if you absolutely love action-packed racing and FPS games, then you should manage to get relatively close to a 200FPS, even with higher graphical settings. Even if you have something like an RTX 4080, you should still be able to make some compromises here and there to get you either to higher graphical settings or higher FPS.
