CES 2006 Profile: HP (Computing)

Hewlett Packard was busy at CES 2006 with a large number of announcements related to new product roll outs. In the realm of computers, HP unveiled several updated Pavilion dv series entertainment notebooks, but of more interesting note was two newly announced desktop computers and a business notebook optimized to work on Verizon Wireless’ EV-DO wireless broadband network.

HP’s new desktop computers are the HP Pavilion Slimline s7300 Series PC (available this month starting at $479) and the HP Pavilion Media Center TV m7300 Series PC (available now starting at $769). As the Slimline name implies, the s7300 series comes in a small size which is around one third the size of a normal PC. Depending upon configuration, possible features of this Intel based series can include Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 with Update Rollup 2, up to 1GB of PC2-3200 DDR2 memory, up to a 200GB 7200 Serial ATA hard drive, 128MB Intel Graphics Accelerator 900 integrated graphics and a 9-in-1 memory card reader.

As for the HP Pavilion Media Center TV m7300, this series is geared more towards the home entertainment environment. It runs off of Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 with Update Rollup 2 and can, depending upon the configuration, include such features as a wireless keyboard, mouse and remote, integrated Wi-Fi, Intel Viiv technology, a NTSC TV tuner with PVR capability, a FM tuner, up to 2GB of DDR1 or DDR2 memory, up to 500GB in hard drive storage and a dual layer, DVD+-/RW/CD-RW/RAM drive.

The new HP Compaq mc6140 Notebook PC, available now at a starting price of $1,399, is the laptop designed to tie into Verizon’s EV-DO network. It features integrated dual wireless antennas andpre-installed software to get up and running with Verizon. Other features in this product include 802.11 wireless connectivity, Bluetooth support, enhanced security features, a weight of around sixpounds, 15” display, full size keyboard, recessed touchpad and expansion capabilities such as an optional port replicator.   Click here for filmcoverage of the HP booth at CES
