Major Nelson on Xbox One shortcomings: ‘Things will get better’

The Xbox One is a great machine with a lot of problems. Microsoft is aware that a lot of users aren’t happy with the backwards step taken as the new console’s operating system shifts in the direction of the Windows 8 ecosystem. The app-ifying of basic functions like Friends list and Achievements creates unnecessarily time-consuming obstacles to viewing basic information. We’ve assembled our own “top five” list of must-improve features, and Reddit has been busy doing the same thing. Check out XboxFeedback.com for an organized list of items pulled from the Reddit thread (via Eurogamer).

The good news is, Microsoft is tuned in. Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb has been relatively active in communicating with the Reddit community, assuring fans that people who matter know what’s up and steps are being taken to address the big issues. “I had a meeting today about much of this and I can say that things will get better,” Hryb wrote in a December 2 Reddit comment. “I can’t offer a timeline of a list of what will be addressed first, but we are aware of the issue and things will get better.”

The new OS on Xbox One is supposedly better able to handle a regular stream of updates. Traditionally, Microsoft’s approach on the Xbox 360 was to release yearly updates that revised or completely changed the dashboard, interface, and overall user experience. We’ll hopefully see a more regular schedule for updates on the Xbox One. Things like cross-game party chat and easily accessible Friends & Achievements lists are taken for granted at this point on the 360 side, and users aren’t likely to accept a year-long wait for that content to work right on the Xbox One.

Quite a few awesome titles are making their way to the service, but by far, the most notable addition is Diablo IV, the first Activision Blizzard game being made available on Xbox Game Pass.

Diablo IV was released in June 2023, just a few months before Microsoft completed its acquisition of Activision Blizzard. It's the latest entry in a long-running isometric RPG series, and it retains the same engaging dungeon design, deep progression systems, and captivating loot loop that makes games in this franchise special. People have been wondering when Activision Blizzard games would arrive on Xbox Game Pass in the months since the acquisition process was completed, and Diablo IV was finally confirmed to be coming to the service on March 28 last month.

Thunderbolt of Zeus

Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 2 is underway and has brought with it some significant changes to the battle royale map that should shake up things quite a lot. This season is all about ancient gods descending onto the map, which is quite obvious by its multiple mythical locations like Mount Olympus and the Underworld. But these new landing spots aren't the only thing the gods have brought with them to Fortnite, as players can also get their hands on godly new items like the Wings of Icarus and Thunderbolt of Zeus. In this guide, we'll tell you where to find the latter and how it works.
How to get the Thunderbolt of Zeus and how it works
You can find the Thunderbolt of Zeus by defeating Zeus at Mount Olympus or by searching in Olympus Chests or Underworld Chests. It can also rarely be found in standard and rare chests.

This powerful lightning-based item can seriously dish out the hurt — provided you can use it in a situation where you won't be easily shot out of the sky. By pressing the fire button, you leap into the sky to begin unleashing a series of three massive lightning bolts on foes beneath you, with the first two bolts fired out rapidly and the final one a bit slower. You'll only get a total of three charges with this devastating weapon, so you'll want to be certain you make the most of each use and only let loose with it when you feel confident you can wrap up a kill.
