It was just shy of a year ago that Fox announced its plans to spin a television series out of the 2002 movie Minority Report, and now we have our first look at that program, courtesy of the show’s first official trailer.
The network released the three-minute preview of Minority Report after announcing that the series had received a full-season order, putting it in line to premiere later this year.
The new series is set ten years after the events of the original film, which cast Tom Cruise as a law enforcement officer in the Washington, D.C. “PreCrime” unit, charged with stopping crimes before they happen with the help of three people who experience “precognitive” visions of the future.
As Dash, one of the former “PreCogs,” struggles with the crimes he continues to see in his mind before they happen, he finds an unlikely ally in police detective Lara Vega (played by Think Like a Man actress Meagan Good), an officer with a troubled past. Along with attempting to prevent the murders predicted by Dash (played by Inside Llewyn Davis actor Stark Sands), the pair searches for Dash’s twin brother, Arthur, while evading people who are looking to eliminate — or exploit — his visions of the future.
The series also stars Laura Regan (Unbreakable) as PreCog Agatha, the PreCog rescued by Cruise’s character in the 2002 film who was originally played by actress Samantha Morton.
There’s currently no official premiere date for the series, which was one of several new shows Fox announced as “coming soon” to the network. While Cruise isn’t likely to reprise his role from the film, the series is being produced by the original film’s director, Steven Spielberg, and his production studio Amblin Entertainment. Paramount Television, 20th Century Fox TV, and Max Borenstein (Godzilla) also serve as producers on the series.
