Ubisoft sales figures suggest it should show the PC a lot more love

Even if the PC is going through a bit of a resurgence at the moment, it hasn’t received the most love from developers and publishers over the past decade, with consoles getting much more of a focus. Even so, it turns out that despite that trend, Ubisoft, one of the world’s biggest publishers, sells more games to PC owners than it does to Xbox One players, or any of those on last-gen systems.

This came to light as part of Ubisoft’s quarterly earnings report, which showed that the PC made up 23 percent of the company’s business. This is a big upswing from the 2014/2015 financial year, which had the PC making up just 14 percent of Ubisoft’s sales.

The PS4 was the only platform with a higher sales share in fact, achieving a 27 percent share of business. To put into perspective how much Sony has dominated this generation of consoles, the Xbox One actually tied with the PS3 and Xbox 360 in terms of Ubisoft money making, with just an 11 percent share each.

However, none of that is as painful as the Wii U’s revenue, which was just three percent, despite a few well received titles like Rayman: Legends and Child of Light. Still, if you’re a glass half full kind of person, that does represent an improvement over the one percent Wii U revenue saw in the same period last year. Ubisoft has also pulled a number of big games from release on the Wii U and is purportedly sitting on a few finished but unreleased games, hoping for a larger Wii U install base to market them to in the future.

Hopefully the fact that its PC revenue is on the rise will see Ubisoft put more time into creating more PC-centric games that aren’t just ports of its console titles.
