Sloths run the DMV (literally) in latest trailer for Disney’s Zootopia

We’ve all had trouble at the DMV but at least the workers aren’t literally sloths. That’s the premise of the new trailer for Disney’s anthropomorphic new film, Zootopia, directed by Tangled’s Byron Howard and Wreck-It-Ralph’s Rich Moore, along with writer/director Jared Bush.

In the preview, we meet a rabbit police officer named Judy (voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin) and a quick-talking fox named Nick (voiced by Jason Bateman). Judy’s hoping to get to the bottom of a case quickly, but the extended scene shows her struggling to get any information from the aptly-chosen sloth DMV worker, Flash (voiced by Raymond Persi).

The adventure story is set in the “modern mammal metropolis” of Zootopia, and follows officer Judy Hopps as she faces an uphill battle as the first bunny on a police force of big, tough animals. Hoping to make her mark on the force, Judy volunteers to take a case — even though it requires her to partner with the “scam-artist” fox Nick Wilde. Even in the two minute clip, we see that she’s going to have her hands full with Bateman’s devious character.

While we don’t learn much about the plot from the latest trailer for the film, the short clip certainly foreshadows another well-crafted, feel-good flick from the team at Disney Animation. Other recent hits from the studio include 2013 box office marvel Frozen, and the Marvel Comics-inspired 2014 3D film Big Hero.

We don’t see an appearance from Shakira in the trailer, but she’s slated to voice Gazelle, “the biggest pop star in Zootopia.”  The veteran Colombian singer known for hits like Hips Don’t Lie will contribute an “upbeat, original song for the Disney film” according to Entertainment Weekly.

Idris Elba, Alan Tudyk, J.K. Simmons, Jenny Slate, Bonnie Hunt, and Octavia Spencer also lend voice work for Zootopia. The film is set to open on March 4, 2016.
