Call of Duty: Ghosts is coming to PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC on November 5, 2013, an Activision press release confirms. The announcement also notes that the game will be available “for next-generation platforms,” though no specifics are provided regarding which ones and when those versions will be released.
The game kicks off another chapter in the Call of Duty series, with Infinity Ward set to deliver an all-new story with a new cast of characters, all of which will be realized using a brand new engine. The freshly released teaser trailer offers no information on any of that, but it sure does feature a lot of masks.
A more complete reveal will follow on May 21 at 10am PT, on Xbox.com, Xbox Live, and Spike TV. This happens to be the same day as Microsoft’s next-gen Xbox reveal. Given the timing and the fact that the reveal will be premiering via Xbox channels, it’s a safe bet that the next-gen version of the game is coming to Microsoft’s new platform.
“Everyone was expecting us to make Modern Warfare 4, which would have been the safe thing to do,” Infinity Ward executive producer Mark Rubin said in a prepared statement. “We saw the console transition as the perfect opportunity to start a new chapter for Call of Duty. So we’re building a new sub-brand, a new engine, and a lot of new ideas and experiences for our players. We can’t wait to share them with our community.”
Hype for today’s reveal began building this morning when a teaser image appeared on CallofDuty.com, and a tweet from the official Call of Duty Twitter feed asked users to retweet “if you’re ready to see the next generation of Call of Duty.”
