All upcoming PS5 games: 2024 and beyond

Eve kneeling with her sword.
Sony Interactive Entertainment

The PlayStation 5 has been out for some time now, and its reception has been mostly positive. It includes lots of quality-of-life improvements over its predecessor, the PlayStation 4, such as faster load times, a solid-state drive (SSD) instead of a regular hard disk drive (HDD), and an improved controller in the form of the new DualSense. However, a console is only as good as the games available on it, and thankfully, the PS5 has you covered on that front as well.

While the machine already has a worthy library of great PS5 games, there are even more to look forward to, with some releasing as soon as this month, while others are still years away. In the video game world, it’s not uncommon to be aware of games that are still several years out from release. It’s also normal for a new game to be revealed and launched within just a couple of months. In this comprehensive list, we’ll go through the major PS5 releases scheduled for 2023 and speculate on future games.

Hollow Knight: Silksong — TBD 2024

RP
Platforms Linux, PC (Microsoft Windows), Mac, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S
Genre Platform, Adventure, Indie
Developer Team Cherry
Publisher Team Cherry
What began as a Hollow Knight DLC add-on eventually turned into a fully-fledged sequel. Silksong is the all-new game from Team Cherry, building upon the foundation of its predecessor but with a few new twists. In Silksong, you play as Hornet, a character who appeared as a boss in the first installment. This game will send players on a journey through the kingdom of Pharloom with the goal of reaching the top. It’ll still feature the tough-as-nails action gameplay, with Metroidvania elements, but there’s a new story and some additional gameplay elements.

The Casting of Frank Stone - TBD 2024

Platforms PC (Microsoft Windows)
Developer Supermassive Games
Publisher Behaviour Interactive
The Casting of Frank Stone will be set in Oregon, where a mysterious killer has made a steel mill the site of their horrific killings. Players will follow a new cast of original characters as they attempt to solve — and survive — the twisting and potentially supernatural events. In true Supermassive Games fashion, choice and consequence are at the heart of this narrative experience. Even the most minor of decisions are suggested to have major repercussions on future events. This is a huge departure from the type of experience Dead by Daylight players are accustomed to, which Mathieu Côté, head of partnership at Behaviour, states was intentional. We don’t have a firm date on this release yet, but it is supposed to drop in 2024.

Games with no release window

All we know about the games listed below is that they’re in development. Most of them are probably a few years away from launch.

Light No Fire

Platforms PC (Microsoft Windows)
Genre Role-playing (RPG)
Developer Hello Games
Publisher Hello Games

From the creators of No Man’s Sky comes a fantastical exploration adventure with a lot of promise. Light No Fire takes place on an alternate Earth where mythical creatures like animated skeletons and dragons roam. We don’t know a lot about this title yet, but it looks similar to Hello Games’ previous hit — there will be lots of foraging, crafting, and trekking across a massive world. Platforms haven’t officially been announced but we expect it to launch of PS5.

Death Stranding 2 - TBD

Platforms PlayStation 5
Genre Shooter, Adventure
Developer Kojima Productions
First announced by Hideo Kojima at the Game Awards 2022, Death Stranding 2 is a real project that’s in development. We know that actor Norman Reedus will be reprising his role as Sam, and that’s about it. We won’t see this game for a few years.

Dragon Age: Dreadwolf

Platforms PC (Microsoft Windows), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S
Genre Role-playing (RPG)
Developer BioWare
Publisher Electronic Arts
Release December 31, 2023
While not much is known about the next Dragon Age game, now finally named Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, we do know it will be a single-player RPG from developer BioWare, the team responsible for the previous installments in the series. It’s being developed concurrently alongside the new Mass Effect game and does not have a release date, though if we had to guess, we’d say to expect it in 2023 at the earliest.

Dustborn

RP
Platforms PC (Microsoft Windows), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S
Genre Adventure, Indie
Developer Red Thread Games
Publisher Red Thread Games
A narrative-driven adventure set in America during the 2030s, Dustborn follows a “band of misfits and outcasts” as they travel across the country to deliver a mysterious package. You’ll take direct control of Pax, an ex-con with superhuman powers who must navigate a world filled with misinformation. It looks to be an innovative new adventure game, and anyone interested in powerful storytelling is advised to give it a look. Dustborn is scheduled for a 2021 release.

Gothic 1 Remake

Genre Role-playing (RPG)
Developer Alkimia Interactive
Publisher THQ Nordic
Cult classic RPG Gothic is getting a complete remake for the PlayStation 5. We don’t know much about the title, but we do know that THQ Nordic opened a new studio to work solely on this project. A playable teaser is available on PC, and it looks to be shaping up nicely. Let’s hope it gets the attention it deserves and Gothic fans get the game they’ve wanted for years.

Marvel's Wolverine

RP
Platforms PlayStation 5
Genre Hack and slash/Beat 'em up, Adventure
Developer Insomniac Games
Publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment
One of the greatest surprises during the 2021 PlayStation Showcase was the reveal of Marvel’s Wolverine, a project in development by Insomniac Games. That’s right, the studio is juggling Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and this game simultaneously, which just goes to show how impressive the team is. This one is even earlier in development than Spider-Man 2 and doesn’t have a release window just yet. It’s unclear if it will tie to the Spider-Man games or if it will be its own separate story — though we’re inclined to believe they’ll be connected. The reveal trailer doesn’t give us a glimpse of gameplay, but we can probably expect it to be a third-person action adventure with a large open world to explore. We know that you’ll need a PS5 to play this one when it comes out.

Quantum Error

Platforms PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S
Genre Shooter
Developer TeamKill Media
While the developers say that everything is going well with Quantum Error, it’s still up in the air whether it will be a launch title. The “cosmic horror shooter” is hoping to prove that zombies never go out of style and features one of the most robust physics systems the industry has seen. It’s scheduled to release at an unspecified date.

Mass Effect

Genre Role-playing (RPG)
Developer BioWare
Publisher Electronic Arts
While it’s still very early in development, we do know a new Mass Effect game is coming from BioWare. Following its official reveal at The Game Awards 2020, there is a slew of questions fans have about the project — most importantly, how it will tie to the original trilogy. In the trailer, we got to see Liara, one of the main characters from the original trilogy, though it’s unclear when in the timeline this new game will take place and what this character’s role will be. There are lots of questions the community has, but one thing’s for sure: You shouldn’t expect to play this one for quite some time — possibly as late as 2024.

Project 007

Developer IO Interactive
Publisher IO Interactive
Coming from Hitman developer IO Interactive, the team is now working on a James Bond game under the working title Project 007. It will be an original story with a new Bond character, divorced from any of the likenesses of previous actors. The team expects this to be part of a trilogy of games, though not much else is known about the project(s). Much like a lot of the games on this list, Project 007 likely won’t launch for a few years.

Project Eve

Platforms PC (Microsoft Windows), PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5
Genre Role-playing (RPG), Adventure
Developer SHIFT UP Corporation
Publisher SHIFT UP Corporation
Project Eve is a new action game from developer Shift Up Corporation. It’s reminiscent of Bayonetta, with action at the forefront. It will feature a free-flow combat system wherein you must attack, dodge, and defend, making split-second decisions on the fly. Project Eve will include DualSense features such as haptic feedback that will increase the immersion. This one has been in development for a while now, so we’re hoping it’s ready to launch sometime in 2022.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2

Platforms PC (Microsoft Windows), PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S
Genre Role-playing (RPG), Adventure
Developer Hardsuit Labs
Publisher Paradox Interactive
It’s been forever since we last walked the vampire-ridden streets of Bloodlines, and we can’t wait to see how much has changed during that time. Recent footage of the game displayed more chaos, a grittier Seattle locale, and a deep, branching storyline. Unfortunately, the game suffered a recent delay, pushing it to an unknown release window.

PlayStation 6: release date speculation, price, specs, and more

In a recent quote, Sony Senior Vice President Naomi Matsuoka said: "Looking ahead, PS5 will enter the latter stage of its life cycle." Many in the industry took that to mean that we may be hearing about the next PlayStation console sooner rather than later.

Considering Sony has yet to break its naming convention, it feels safe to assume whatever future home console we get will be called the PlayStation 6. But not only has the name not been officially confirmed, but neither has the idea of a next-generation PlayStation console or even a PS5 Pro. It's almost a guarantee, but technically nothing is set in stone. Rumors and potential leaks have already started stirring up excitement, so let's see what the future of PlayStation may look like according to the rumors.
