And if you’ve ever wondered what makes the Angry Birds so darn angry, it appears that The Angry Birds Movie will finally provide an answer to that mystery.
Featuring an impressive voice cast that includes Jason Sudeikis (Horrible Bosses, We’re the Millers), Josh Gad (Frozen), and Danny McBride (This is the End, Eastbound & Down) as lead characters Red, Chuck, and Bomb, respectively, the film is based on a script penned by The Simpsons writer Jon Vitti. The first trailer for the film debuted back in September 2015.
The supporting cast for The Angry Birds Movie is similarly peppered with well known actors, including Bill Hader (Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs), Maya Rudolph (Bridesmaids), Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones), Keegan-Michael Key (Key & Peele), Kate McKinnon (Saturday Night Live), Tony Hale (Arrested Development), Ike Barinholtz (Neighbors), Hannibal Buress (Broad City), and Danielle Brooks (Orange is the New Black). YouTube stars Ian Andrew Hecox and Anthony Padilla — collectively known as Smosh — also play roles in the film.
The Angry Birds Movie is expected to provide an origin story of sorts for both the birds themselves and their feud with the pigs — a conflict that has spurred more than two billion downloads of Angry Birds games in various formats to date. The franchise also inspired the animated series Angry Birds Toons.
The Angry Birds Movie is directed by Fergal Reilly and Clay Kaytis, and is scheduled to hit theaters May 20.
