Previous records keep falling by the wayside when it comes to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.
Activision released details of the five-day sales figures for the recently released best-selling entertainment product in history, and they continue to be the sort of numbers that establish Modern Warfare 3 as one for the ages (or at least until the next Call of Duty is released).
According to Activision, Modern Warfare 3 grossed over $775 million worldwide in the five days since it hit shelves, exceeding the $650 million record set last year by Call of Duty: Black Ops and the $550 million record set a year earlier by Modern Warfare 2. That tally marks the highest five-day sales for any movie, book, music album, or video game ever released to this point.
“Call of Duty has become the first entertainment property in history to set five-day launch records for three consecutive years across all forms of entertainment,” said Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick in a press release announcing the game’s five-day sales. “Life-to-date retail sales for the Call of Duty franchise have exceeded $6 billion worldwide, which makes Call of Duty one of the most valuable entertainment properties in the world.”
On top of all that, Modern Warfare 3 broke the online gaming record for Xbox Live with 3.3 million users simultaneously competing on November 8 — a record that was previously set by Call of Duty: Black Ops (2.6 million concurrent users).
People need to stop hating on games, what’s the point. If people wanna play rehashes or drive vehicles wit new paint coats, let them. I bought Modern Warfare 3 and I’m having fun with it. I’m actually having way more fun playing it than I was with Battlefield 3 which I intend on selling this week.. all the hype, I bought it and that game is beautiful yet boring and tedious. Modern Warfare for all its copy and pasteness can never be considered boring. The community makes it fun for one… characters they are but it is all interesting and adds to the overall experience depending on the kinda lobby you find yourself in (see hillbilly, racist, gamer girls, pre teens, n00bs and other kinds of lobby’s)
I’m enjoying MW3… I think its a fun game and I am finding myself mindlessly dedicating hours to it after work. I just got off of it just now and had a blast with my clan members. I see no problem with Sledgehammer and whats left if InfinityWard keeping with the tried and true sayings “if it aint broke dont fix it” and “more is better”… the game isnt a huge step in technological prowess, but for it to be fun, it doesnt have to be. Battlefield was great for 2 minutes, all the explosions and dust particles, all the lighting effects and buildings collapsing but the multiplayer left a lot to be desired and so did the campaign… I kept thinking to myself… “I dislike this game just about as much as I dislike Black Ops” and I hated Black Ops with a passion and would make every excuse not to play it until I ran out and kinda had to get on.
I dont see much difference in the copy and paste job here than I saw with Mario 1, 3 and Mario World… baby steps with each new edition, slight changes here and there but at the end of the day… it was all very familiar. Same goes for God Of War 1 – 3, Gran Turismo 2 – 4, the Metroid Prime Trilogy, Uncharted Metal Gear Solid 2 and above and countless others. I remember when Wrestlemania 2000 came out and I thought that was the best game ever and then No Mercy dropped the next year and I thought that was the best game ever and looking back, they were damn near the same game except No Mercy had a few new features and characters. Those games were all praised with each new edition, with each sequel but for some reason everyone has it out for Soap, Ghost, Roach, Ramirez and company.
I just dont understand the bad rap that Modern Warfare gets when it isnt doing anything other publishers and developers havent done before with their franchises… same engine, make a few changes and sell it to an awaiting group of buyers. Square has done it, EA, Take 2, 2K Games… yet they dont get the flack that the Modern Warfare guys get… why is that? Sounds like bias if you ask me… but no one asked me so I’m gonna get back on the PS3 and try and find Makarov for a 3rd time… this time on Veteran… you guys keep wasting time hating… I’m sure it’ll get you all somewhere….. eventually.
If you played this game, at first it seems to be the same. In fact it is harder and more robust on options and graphics. Being O.T.D., I found it to be challenging and maybe yes there may not be much of a diff. but enough to make it worthwhile. There are still some flaws in the game play regarding people pooping up out of nowhere, and there is a bit of a lag on PS3, but it is still the next generation game.
Holy shit!
Its amazing how many people will go out and buy a game that has absolutely zero difference since world at war, proving they have no creativty, they will probably put out a new one next year and they don’t even have to change anything but the name, and it will bring in 700million dollars…
Yet, their online “elite” profiles are only half baked and often don’t function?! Bring on the class-action lawsuits.
people are drones..
