A new Gears of War will be unveiled at E3

Despite the somewhat definitive ending players were treated to in Gears of War 3, Epic Games is planning on debuting the next entry in the Gears of War franchise. Game Informer will have more news on the title when its next issue is released, but the true reveal will come at Microsoft’s E3 press conference this coming Monday.

Beyond the image, little to nothing is known about the next Gears game other than it will be released for the Xbox 360, but we can make a few guesses. Fans of the series will remember that the first Gears began with franchise protagonist Marcus Fenix languishing in jail. The story of how he ended up there has been explained, but only lightly explored in the trilogy.

It seems possible, even likely, that the shadowy figure in the image is Fenix, which could signify that the game will be a prequel and focus on the events that landed him in jail. It makes sense. The series reached a climax and a conclusion, plus prequels are growing more and more common—just look at God of War: Ascension among others.

We won’t know anything for certain until Monday, but that shouldn’t stop us from speculating! So sound off below and let us know what you would like to see from the next Gears of War!

Fortnite is literally the gift that keeps on giving. With so many updates bringing big changes to the game, I don't blame anyone that can no longer keep up with the live-service juggernaut. No matter how hard he tries, sometimes Kratos just can't avoid a fight. With the God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla DLC, there's almost nothing but fighting in this new roguelike mode, which is great for us who want more ways to engage with the game's brutally satisfying combat.

This mode's main difference is how you construct your build as you go through each run rather than pick a favorite and master it like in the main game. Aside from your base stats, you will be picking up various Amulet Enhancements and Relics through Glyph chests that give you different buffs and abilities. Many will be familiar if you've played the story; however, the challenges you face in Valhalla require different builds than normal.

Despite all falling into the roguelike genre, every game within that category handles progression differently. Some have no permanent upgrades and instead force the player to simply rely on their skills and luck during each run, while others dole out buffs and tools that the player can accumulate over multiple runs to make each one a bit easier.

God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla falls into the latter category thanks to Master Seals. These special rewards allow Kratos to get permanent buffs to his base stats, easing the difficulty a bit for those who need it. Just getting the seals isn't enough, and not even Mimir will give you a clue on how to spend them, so we'll help you return Kratos to his godly status.
