EA is focusing almost all of its marketing efforts on DICE’s Star Wars Battlefront — and its pricey season pass — this holiday season, but if you’re more interested in last spring’s cops-and-robbers simulator Battlefield Hardline, you’ll be able to get your hands on new content very soon. Getaway, the game’s third expansion, is launching next month.
“Whether you’re making a dusty, high-speed escape across the Mexican border, or closing in on a hot pursuit along the sun-drenched Pacific coast, you’ll be chasing glory at top speed,” EA says in the official blog post.
Getaway includes four new “massive” maps, the “capture the bag” game mode, new weapons, new vehicles, a new gadget, and new “Legendary Camos.” As the name suggests, the focus looks to be on intense chases this time around. The main Battlefield Hardline game leaned pretty heavily on vehicles in its multiplayer portion, to limited success. No matter how much the game wants me to think otherwise, a Ford Mustang is not a tank.
The release date for Getaway is now set for January, at least for Premium subscribers, moved from its original “fall 2015” planned release. This suggests that the company may have been worried about launching race-focused DLC so close to one of its other flagship franchises, Need for Speed, which rebooted to a mixed reception in November.
Naturally, this isn’t the only DLC that EA is currently pushing. Star Wars Battlefront is also offering a pricey season pass, with the first expansion expected to launch early next year.
But if you’re just more interested in waiting for the next “proper” Battlefield game, it looks like it’s on the way. DICE’s Dan Vanderlind recently revealed that a portion of the Battlefront team have been shifted to focus on the next installment in the developer’s most famous series.
