The Supergirl television series has a knack for finding creative ways to pay homage to the TV shows and movies that paved the way for DC Comics characters to make the leap from page to screen, and now it’s adding another iconic superhero actress to the show’s recurring cast.

Warner Bros. and The CW announced today that former Wonder Woman series star Lynda Carter will join the series’ cast in the second season.

Carter, who played Wonder Woman (and her alter ego, Diana Prince) in the well-known TV show that aired from 1975-1979, will play the president of the United States in Supergirl. The character will be a recurring one for the show, and Carter will make her debut in the role during the third episode of the second season.

Carter will be far from the first former superhero actor to make an appearance on the series. Dean Cain, who played Superman in the popular series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, and Helen Slater, who played the title role in the 1984 Supergirl movie, currently portray the adoptive parents of Supergirl in the series.

Set to return in October,  Supergirl stars Melissa Benoist in the title role. She’s joined in the cast by Mehcad Brooks as James Olsen, Laura Benanti as Alura Zor-El, Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant, Chyler Leigh as Alex Danvers, Jeremy Jordan as Winn Schott, Jenna Dewan Tatum as Lucy Lane (the sister of Lois Lane), David Harewood as Hank Henshaw, and Peter Facinelli as Maxwell Lord.

After airing one season on CBS, the series will return on The CW for its second season. The new season of Supergirl will premiere October 10 at 8 p.m. ET.

Wonder Woman 1984 will mark HBO Max’s 4K HDR debut
Wonder Woman 1984

Wonder Woman 1984 director Patty Jenkins took to Twitter yesterday to announce that the movie -- which is slated to launch in theaters and on HBO Max on Christmas Day -- will be presented in 4K resolution, with Dolby Vision high dynamic range (HDR) and Dolby Atmos surround sound. Ordinarily, this wouldn't be big news. Most of the premier Star Wars and Marvel content on Disney+, for instance, is already available in these formats. But since its launch, HBO Max hasn't released a single title in anything better than full HD resolution, and there haven't been any promises regarding HDR either.

The Wonder Woman sequel will be available in 4K, Dolby Vision, HDR10, and Dolby Atmos on Apple TV 4K, Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K, Amazon Fire TV Cube, Chromecast Ultra, AT&T TV and supported Android TV devices.
