Amazon cuts price of Samsung Gear S3 Frontier smartwatch below $200

Malarie Gokey/Digital Trends

When it comes to smartwatches, there’s Samsung and Apple, and then everybody else. But with both companies focusing on their latest models (the Galaxy Watch and Apple Watch Series 4, respectively), now is a great time to pick up previous generation models at great prices. Amazon is one spot to pick up a good deal, with the Samsung Gear S3 Frontier currently on sale for just $200.

That price is the lowest we’ve seen since Black Friday, and is $20 cheaper than a previous sale Amazon ran earlier this month. This particular sale is on the Frontier with Bluetooth, and you operate and manage what’s on your watch through the companion Samsung Gear app.

We reviewed the version of the Gear S3 Frontier with LTE connectivity two years ago this week, but there’s nothing different about the Bluetooth version other than the option for cellular connectivity. We walked away with that review pleased with the simple interface with rotating bezel for navigation, and battery life that lasted more than a day.

The rotating bezel is pretty easy to use once you get used to it. Spin it to the left, and you’ll be able to adjust the widgets on your smartwatch to personalize your experience. Spinning it to the right brings up your notifications. Of course it has all the other features you’d expect in a modern smartwatch including fitness tracking, NFC support (Samsung Pay), and a speakerphone for phone calls.

While it is thicker than most smartwatches out there, it still fits comfortably on the wrist. Another design feature that might make it more pleasing to some is that it looks more like a traditional watch that a smart watch. With the chronograph watch face, you might even forget you’re wearing a smartwatch altogether (the screen is crisp and colorful, on the top tier of smartwatches out there).

And don’t worry about the watch being two years old now: Samsung is still updating the software for the Gear S3. While you may not have all the bells and whistles of the Galaxy Watch, this still is a great watch, and especially now with the price falling below $200.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 pre-orders reveal potential pricing
samsung galaxy tab s8 amazon listing leak black 2

Samsung looks all set to unveil its next generation of flagship Android tablets in the form of the Galaxy Tab S8 series. The devices are expected to be unveiled alongside the Galaxy S22 lineup next week. Ahead of the launch, the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra pricing has also appeared online, thanks to a European seller.

A report from GSMArena reveals that the Galaxy S8 Ultra is listed for pre-orders in France. The device is listed for a price of 1,699 euros, which translates to around $1,915. However, this isn't the starting price point. You will get the 16GB RAM and 512GB storage variant for that price, which is likely the highest-end model. It is listed as “in stock” but is likely to ship after February 9.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 series’ Amazon listing reveals it all

Samsung is all set to host its Galaxy Unpacked event in February 2022, where it'll likely launch the Galaxy S22 lineup and the Galaxy Tab S8 series. The latter has now appeared in an Amazon Italy listing, revealing the renders and specs of the Galaxy Tab S8, Galaxy Tab S8 Plus, and the high-end Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra.

According to a report from Pocketnow, Amazon Italy accidentally leaked renders and specs for all three models of the Galaxy Tab S8 series. The standard spec throughout the lineup is the presence of a Qualcomm system on a chip (likely the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset.) The trio comes in both 5G cellular and Wi-Fi-only models. The Galaxy Tab S8 and S8 Plus have black, silver, and pink color options, whereas the Ultra tablet could come in black only. All three devices seem to have S Pen support, with magnetic placement on the back.

iPhone 13 and Z Flip 3 keep Apple and Samsung sales strong in U.S. and Europe
Galaxy Z Flip 3 closed with Cover Screen active.

The smartphone markets in the U.S. and Europe are still suffering from a chip shortage, according to a report from Counterpoint Research, with overall sales being slightly lower in Europe and slightly higher in the U.S. than they were last year. In Europe, Samsung, Xiaomi, and Apple led the European smartphone market in Q3 (July, August, and September). Even though Samsung saw a decline from the immediately preceding quarter, the newly launched Galaxy Z Flip 3 helped its fortunes. The U.S. market remains dominated by Apple and Samsung, with Motorola continuing slow and steady growth.

Zooming out to look at the bigger picture, aside from Apple, the usual suspects who make the best Android phones (Samsung, Xiaomi, Oppo) lead the pack in the European market. This was likely with phones like the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and OnePlus 9, along with lower-priced A-Series models, while there are some surprise entrants from the likes of Vivo and Realme. Huawei continues to decline, with the lack of Google services and the limited launch of the P50 continuing to take their toll, while former sub-brand Honor is on the rise. The company just launched the Honor 50 and Honor 50 Pro as its first phones with Google services in years, and it'll be interesting to see how these affect future sales.
