Rock Band, Guitar Hero studio Harmonix acquired by Epic Games

Epic Games has purchased Harmonix, the developer behind numerous music-based games, including Rock Band and Guitar Hero, for an unspecified amount. It’s one of the massive publisher’s biggest acquisitions since it purchased Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout developer Mediatonic in March.

In a post on its site, Epic Games claimed that Harmonix would play a role in its own version of the metaverse. “Harmonix has a track record of creating fun and engaging music experiences designed for everyone to enjoy,” reads the statement. “As we work to build the metaverse, this expertise is needed to reimagine how music is experienced, created, and distributed.”

Along with helping Epic create its online universe, Harmonix will also be working with the Fortnite development team “to develop musical journeys and gameplay” for the massive free-to-play title. This is likely a reference to the multiple concerts that have taken place in the game, featuring artists from Travis Scott to Ariana Grande.

However, fans of Rock Band 4 or any of Harmonix’s other currently supported games don’t have to worry about sudden server shutdowns. In its own statement, Harmonix said that it plans to continue supporting all of its games at full capacity. In regards to DLC for Rock Band 4, the developer said, “We’ll be continuing on with our existing DLC plans … and there are lots of great tracks coming as we wrap up 2021 and push into the new year.”

The developer also stressed that all of its games that are currently on Steam, including Fuser and Audica: Rhythm Shooter, won’t be taken off the digital marketplace.

The fishing update to Lego Fortnite added, you guessed it, the ability to fish once you've made yourself a rod. Of course, since fish didn't exist in the game before this, an entire school of undersea life needed to be created. Every fish you can catch has a different benefit, from restoring a bunch of health when you eat it to giving you some kind of buff. The rarest and most useful fish is certainly the Vendetta Flopper, making it the most coveted catch in the game. While fishing is still heavily dependent on luck, you won't even have a chance at this fish unless you know where to cast your line.

The nest step is to only cast into the glowing purple zones that indicate the presence of rare fish. Fishing in any other part of the water won't yield the Vendetta Flopper we're after.

Fortnite is getting a Disney universe made by Epic Games

Epic Games is partnering with Disney to create “an all-new games and entertainment universe” that’s compatible with Fortnite.

Announced Wednesday afternoon — at the same time as it was announced that ESPN would be available as a standalone subscription in 2025 — this partnership follows a $1.5 billion investment in Epic Games by Disney. They companies now plan to work together over several years to create this experience connected to Fortnite, which Disney says will “offer a multitude of opportunities for consumers to play, watch, shop and engage with content, characters and stories from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, Avatar, and more.”
