Samsung Projectors Juggle Business, Movies

Samsung Projectors Juggle Business, Movies

Samsung's new A400 should be just as good at delivering presentations to investors as watching blook-soaked horror flicks in the living room.

Business projectors may be optimized for PowerPoint presentations, spreadsheets and PDFs, but at the end of the day, everyone knows that they’re still going to be firing up a DVD now and then in the downtime. Samsung introduced a line of projectors tailored to both business use and movies on Tuesday with the A400 and D300 data projectors.

To make it usable in brightly lit scenarios, the A400 gets a “high brightness” mode that lets it kick out 2,000 ANSI lumens for maximum visibility in the boardroom, but also sports a “theater mode” that optimizes color and contrast when you’re ready to kick back and watch Mad Max in the hotel room. With less-than-HD WXGA (1280×768) resolution and a 2,500:1 contrast ratio, it’s not going to make your Blu-ray discs look amazing, but should be just fine for standard-def movies and presentations.

The D300 provides more brightness and contrast, but sacrifices resolution and the movie mode. It blasts an impressive 3,000 ANSI lumens with a 3,000:1 contrast ratio at XGA (1024×768) resolution.

Both projectors are available immediately, with the A400 selling for $1099 and the D300 for $999.
