Stream of rumors about Wii 2 specs, price and release date hit the web

Rumors surrounding the new Wii, also dubbed Project Cafe, are growing steadily the closer we get to E3 in June. Mid-April we heard that the new home system would be unveiled at E3, and the console would blow past the Wii’s 480p to running games at HD resolution (1080p). Now, thanks to IGN and their trusted yet unnamed sources, we have a better picture of Nintendo’s latest anticipated console entry.

IGN‘s Scott Lowe has uncovered new information regarding possible pricing, release date, hardware specs and design. The sources claim that the Wii 2 could run anywhere from $350 to $400, though the prices may depend on whether Nintendo decides to lower profit margins. Lowe’s article says that the new Wii will be manufactured by the Taiwanese Foxconn, and may be released as early as mid-October/early November; but Lowe speculates that Nintendo could decide to release in the beginning of 2012 in order to build up their software and hardware horde.

As far as processor specs go, Lowe says the new Wii‘s will be based on “a revamped version of AMD’s R700 GPU architecture not AMD’s Fusion technology” and will surpass the PS3’s NVIDIA based processor. He also says it will be similar to the Xbox 360 with a “triple-core IBM PowerPC chipset, but the clocking speeds will be faster.” It will also be similar to the original Xbox in terms of size, with possibly a nostalgic design nod to the look of the Super Nintendo Entertainment System.

Many names are being bandied about for this new system, but Lowe’s article said that Nintendo is considering the name ‘Stream’ – perhaps referring to its ability to stream content.

Nintendo is insistent on keeping the mystery around the new system. Shigeru Miyamoto replied, “Don’t Ask!” when he was grilled about the new Wii in a closed-door session in London. He also gave a vague deflection on whether the game machine would still be unveiled as expected at E3.

E3 2021: Starfield, Breath of the Wild 2, and more games we expect to see

The E3 season has definitely snuck up on us. It feels like just yesterday we were all still bundled up in our winter clothes, and suddenly -- bam! Now our days will be filled with refreshing livestreams of big game announcements. Until the event begins, we can only speculate as to what will be shown, which is a time-honored E3 tradition in its own right. So while we are waiting for the actual announcements, let’s ponder on the games we're likely to see on the E3 floor ... well, the digital one, that is.
Starfield

This one has been a long time coming. Starfield is Bethesda’s next big sci-fi game. The publisher announced Starfield at E3 2018, but there hasn't been much new information about it since. Bethesda’s Todd Howard has stated that a good portion of the game is currently playable, but we have not seen anything new since the vague 2018 teaser trailer. It has been heavily hinted that Starfield will be a centerpiece for the Bethesda conference at this year’s E3, so it's a safe bet that we will see at least something about this game during Microsoft and Bethesda's joint showcase.

3 Xbox Game Pass games you need to play this weekend (May 3-5)

Another weekend is upon us, and you're probably looking for some games to kill time with over the course of it. We're in a bit of a lull right now ahead of a flurry of releases starting next week, so it's a great time to dip back into the Xbox Game Pass catalog and check out some games that you may have missed. There are three games in particular that I think you should check out this weekend if you're looking for something to play.

One is an unsettling adventure that's getting an Xbox-exclusive sequel later this month. The next is a finely animated roguelike indie that recently made its way to Microsoft's gaming subscription service. Finally, there's a relaxing adventure that gives players a lot of freedom, yet is short enough to beat in a weekend. If you're having trouble deciding what to play this weekend, give one of these games a shot.

3 underrated PS Plus games you should play this weekend (May 3-5)

PlayStation Plus Premium and Extra have been around for almost two years, and during that time the subscription service has established itself as an ample competitor to Xbox Game Pass. That means there is a wealth of great games for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 owners to check out if they're looking for something to play this weekend. I think PS Plus subscribers should be looking toward some of the more underrated games in the subscription service this weekend too.

I have three particular picks in mind. The first is an enjoyable Metroidvania that came to PS Plus' game catalog when it launched just a couple of weeks ago and deserves a lot more attention than it's getting. After that, there's an action-platformer that pays homage to series like Ninja Gaiden that you should check out before it leaves the catalog. Finally, there's a PS2-era Star Wars game that fills the niche a recently canceled game would have.
