Someone made Playable Quidditch in Halo 5

One Harry potter fan has recreated Harry Potter’s magical sport Quidditch in Halo 5: Guardians.

Halo Forge user xXHugabearXx created a custom Grifball level and game mode to emulate the game, which involves flying on broomsticks across a field and throwing balls through the opposing team’s hoops, which are high in the air, while avoiding aggressive defenders. Though players use jetpacks instead of broomsticks, the rules of the Halo 5 Quidditch game are very similar to the original. Players score three points for throwing the ball through one of the opposing team’s hoops, and one point for killing an opposing player with a gravity hammer. First team to 15 points wins. There is no version of the Golden Snitch in this version. There are also no assigned positions, though teams could potentially assign them on their own.

In fact, one might argue this version might even surpass the real-life version of Quidditch, which has accrued a cult following among Harry Potter fans on college campuses. While the IRL version of Quidditch emulates the version of the novel more faithfully — according to U.S. Quidditch, a non-profit organization which offers standardized rules for the game — the Halo 5 version offers a certain amount of intensity and superhuman wonder the original just can’t achieve.

Modders seem to have a penchant for adapting games for Halo 5 multiplayer. Since 343 released its Forge modding tools in December, players have created their takes on Rocket League and a Star Wars podracing analogue, among others. This mod comes almost two weeks after developer 343 Industries added Grifball to Guardians, a cult-favorite mode that’s been in the series since Halo 3, in a downloadable update.

Players looking for Quidditch in Halo 5: Guardians should search for the level “Quidditch Arena” and the game mode “Quidditch.”

My adoration for exploring and collecting in games is well-known to anyone who has ever heard me wax poetic about Soulslikes. Surprisingly, though, it's rarely the punishing bosses or deep role-playing systems that suck me in the most -- it's the "Aha!" moments of finding a well-hidden item on a ledge most folks would never notice or stumbling upon an illusory wall that leads me somewhere wholly new. But this love of thoroughly examining levels and finding their secrets was first sparked in me with the significantly brighter and cheerier platformer genre almost three decades ago. There's really nothing that makes me happier than becoming entranced in a happy, colorful adventure that lets me sink back into that childlike wonder I experienced all those years ago.

That's why I'm always thrilled to find indie games like Chibig's Koa and the Five Pirates of Mara that genuinely capture the playfulness of the titles I grew up with. Similar to other lovely platformers like New Super Lucky's Tale or A Hat in Time, it may lack some of the AAA flourishes of the genre-defining Super Mario Odyssey, but it makes its case by flawlessly nailing the fundamentals: a memorable and lovable mascot, diverse level design, tight controls, and a cohesive artistic vision. That attention to such core principles keeps it from suffering the same fate as the dozens of low-budget releases each year that often suffocate beneath the weight of their own ambition.

There are a few elements from the Harry Potter universe that most people want to see portrayed in a game like Hogwarts Legacy. Of course, we all expect wands, spells, the titular school, and all the magical creatures, but it's the fictional sport of Quidditch that tops most people's list of most requested activities. This fantastical sport sees two teams of players mount up on their flying broomsticks above a field in an attempt to knock balls through their opponent's rings. Of course, there's also the Golden Snitch that needs to be caught for the game to conclude. This feels like a perfect activity to include in an RPG like Hogwarts Legacy, but can you actually play Quidditch in the game?

As sad as it is to say, you cannot play Quidditch in Hogwarts Legacy. While you do gain access to a flying broom, and can visit the school's Quidditch field, it can't be used to play this magical sport. This was confirmed before the game even released, but once it came out, we found out the in-game explanation for why none of the students are mounting up for some matches.

For as fun as Hogwarts Legacy was, there was one major feature of the wizarding world that was noticeably absent from the game.
