How to pre-order Modern Warfare II: retailers, editions, and bonuses

No, you read that right and it isn’t deja vu. Modern Warfare II, not to be confused with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 from 2009, is 2023’s yearly installment in the biggest gaming series on earth. This is the follow-up to 2019’s Modern Warfare and the next game after we returned to World War 2 last year in Vanguard, and this title has a lot of weight on its shoulders. For many, the series has been feeling stale and uninspired as of late, but the return of Ghost with Task Force 141, and calling back to perhaps the most popular game in the series, can’t be for nothing.

Call of Duty fans, for the most part, are already sold on Modern Warfare II. It’s a safe bet of a game if you’re looking for a solid, high-action, and competitive roller coaster of a game. At the same time, in the modern age, Modern Warfare II isn’t just a game you buy and forget about. There’s plenty of extra content to get on top of just your base experience, some of which can only be obtained through pre-orders and buying specific editions. While there are no RC cars or night vision goggles this time around, you will definitely want to check out what you can add to your loadout come launch.

As is typically the case, the most straightforward way to pre-order Modern Warfare II is through the official Call of Duty website. Here you can easily select your platform of choice, as well as which edition you want, and be taken directly to the appropriate storefront to pre-order. You can get the game via PlayStation, Xbox, BattleNet, or Steam.

We’re lumping these two together since they are the same in every way except that they just call the Cross-Gen Bundle Standard for PC platforms since, obviously, they only need one version. The cover art for this version is a close shot of Ghost’s masked face. This edition costs $70 and has the following:

  • The base Modern Warfare II game for last and current generation consoles or PC
  • Early access to the open beta
  • PlayStation players will also get extra access to the beta before other platforms

The only beefed-up edition for Modern Warfare II is called the Vault Edition which jumps the price up to $100. Ghost is still the star of the cover, only now aiming down the sights of a rifle. Here’s what you will find when you crack open the Vault Edition:

  • Everything included in the Standard or Cross-Gen Bundle Editions
  • The Ghost Legacy Pack for Modern Warfare II and Warzone, which includes 12 Ghost Operator skins, 10 weapon blueprints, the Final Judgement Bundle, and the ability to pre-load the game
  • Red Team 141 Operator Pack, which includes Ghost, Soap, Farah, and Price Operators
  • FJX Cinder Weapon Vault
  • The Season 1 Battle Pass
  • 50 Tier Skips

How to rank up fast in Modern Warfare 3: best ways to farm XP
A soldier with a shotgun in Modern Warfare 3.

Every year when the new Call of Duty title drops, the playing field is once again reset as everyone needs to start grinding back up the ranks. Fully embracing the RPG elements, Modern Warfare 3 once again allows you to earn XP as you play match after match to rank up your character, with each rank not only bringing you closer to hitting prestige but also unlocking new options for your chosen operator. Your player rank is unique from your weapon levels and can take a lot longer to grind if you don't know the most efficient methods. If you want to fast-track your career through the ranks, here are the fastest ways to earn XP in Modern Warfare 3.
How to earn XP fast in Modern Warfare 3
There's basically no way you can play Modern Warfare 3 without earning XP, but some modes and methods can earn you double (or more) what you could if you were just playing without a plan.
Play the objective

We all love playing team deathmatch or any other mode where all you need to worry about is being the one to shoot first. However, if you want to earn that sweet XP fast, you need to choose one of the objective modes like Domination, Hardpoint, Ground War, or even Kill Confirmed. Not only do you get XP for killing enemies, but the amount you get on top of that for playing the objective can make up the bulk of your XP gain. This is especially true if you're not at the top of your game and end up dying more than you kill since you have another method to contribute. Also, objective modes grant you an XP bonus just for finishing the match.

How to access the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 beta
A soldier aims their pistol at an enemy at night.

It's been almost a year since last year's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was released, which means it's time for the next installment in the annual shooter franchise. This time we're completing the trilogy (again) with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. This entry has already generated a lot of hype among fans of the franchise for the inclusion, and return, of some highly requested features such as the mini-map and Zombies mode.

Sticking to the usual late-fall release schedule, Modern Warfare 3 will officially launch on November 10 of this year, but that doesn't mean you have to wait until then to get a taste of what's to come. If you play your cards right, you can get in on the beta to sharpen your skills before the competition.
