How to use It Takes Two’s Friend’s Pass

The critically acclaimed co-op adventure game It Takes Two is now on Xbox Game Pass. With the title coming to Microsoft’s subscription service on console, cloud, and PC, many new eyes will be on the game. That means more potential players and renewed interest. Thankfully, any interested players lacking the game or Game Pass don’t have to buy one or the other in order to play with a friend thanks to Friend’s Pass.

Friend’s Pass is a service exclusive to It Takes Two that allows for free co-op play between an owner of the game and another that doesn’t have it. The service is available for It Takes Two on every platform it’s available on and can even be used cross-generation for applicable platforms. Here’s how to use it to play with any friend you’d like.

How to set up Friend’s Pass

The requirements to download Friend’s Pass are simple, with the only difference being between your platform of choice’s marketplace. This can be done via Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC through the Steam or Origin store. Remember, there is no cross-platform play, but cross-gen play is implemented.

After one player downloads the full game of It Takes Two, the player who doesn’t own it or have Game Pass needs to search for “It Takes Two” on their preferred marketplace (Xbox, PlayStation, Steam, or Origin). They’ll find Friend’s Pass in that search. Players do not need to download it on the same platform as their friend; the game has full cross-play support. Once they download it, the player with the full game just has to invite their friend from the main menu. Now both players are good to start playing the entirety of the game together even though only one player owns the game. It’s that simple.

Friend’s Pass works with the Xbox Game Pass version of the game. If you’re a subscriber, have your friend download the pass, and you’ll be able to invite them through the steps mentioned above.

This process can also work for both players and allow them to play through a demo of the game if neither owns the full title. The same setup applies, but this time, both players have to download Friend’s Pass. This only allows you to play the game up to the end of the first level. To go any further, at least one player has to purchase the full game or subscribe to Xbox Game Pass while it is still a featured title.

Microsoft pledges to bring Xbox PC games to Nvidia GeForce Now

Microsoft has announced a 10-year partnership with Nvidia aimed at bringing Xbox PC games to its cloud gaming service competitor Nvidia GeForce Now as part of its ongoing efforts to win over companies skeptical of its potebtial Activision Blizzard acquisition.
This means that players can use Nvidia GeForce Now to play the Steam, Epic Games Store, or Windows versions of titles like Halo Infinite, Redfall, and eventually, Call of Duty through the cloud on GeForce Now. Third-party publishers with games on the Windows Store can also now grant streaming rights to Nvidia. This announcement came during a European Commission hearing where Microsoft tried to convince regulators that its impending acquisition should bne allowed.
Microsoft has been under a lot of regulatory scrutiny even since it announced its intent to acquire Activision Blizzard in January 2022. It's trying to win over industry peers with deals like this one with Nvidia. This week, the Communications Workers of America voiced its approval of the deal, and Microsoft has signed a binding agreement to bring Call of Duty to Nintendo platforms as well. Previously, Nvidia had raised concerns about Microsoft's Activision Blizzard acquisition, but the press release announcing this agreement states that the deal "resolves Nvidia's concerns," and that Nvidia now gives "full support for regulatory approval of the acquisition." 
Regulatory bodies in the U.S., U.K., and Europe are worried that Microsoft acquiring Activision Blizzard will hurt the game industry and sabotage Microsoft's competitors in both console and cloud gaming. Nvidia GeForce Now is seen as one of the biggest competitors to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate's cloud service offerings, which makes it surprising that it reached an agreement with Nvidia. However, this deal also demonstrates how Microsoft is willing to make concessions so that its acquisition of Activision Blizzard is approved.

Valheim finally comes to Xbox next month with full crossplay

Iron Gate Studio and Coffee Stain Publishing confirmed that the Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One versions of Valheim will finally launch on March 14. The early access Xbox Game Preview title will be included as part of the Xbox Game Pass subscription when it releases on consoles, as it is already available via the PC version of the service.

The announcement came as part of IGN's 2023 Fan Fest event. In addition to a release date announcement, we also saw a gameplay trailer showing it running on Xbox Series X, which seemed on par with how the game runs on higher-end PCs. We also learned that Valheim will support full crossplay between PC and Xbox consoles when it finally launches. This release marks the first time Valheim will be available on console since the fantasy survival game rose to popularity in early 2021. For the time being, this also means that Valheim is an Xbox console exclusive.
