Fortnite adds LeBron James and his signature shoes

Just when you thought Fortnite couldn’t add any more superstars, Epic Games decides to add one of basketball’s largest icons, LeBron “The King” James.  LeBron is joining the item shop for the newest season of the hit battle royale in two days on July 14, along with his upcoming shoe: the Nike LeBron 19.

The King Has Arrived: LeBron James Joins Fortnite’s Icon Series

Fortnite has recently become more well-known for its character inclusions than its actual battle royale gameplay. Through its icon series of skins, the battle royale juggernaut has added real-life gaming, music, movie, and sports stars. These skins include Ninja, Travis Scott, Major Lazer, and now LeBron.

James will come with three variations of his new shoes, as well as many different outfits and bling that show off his title of King. Players can also grab new costumes that coincide with his upcoming film, Space Jam: A New Legacy.

One outfit included in LeBron’s icon pack is focused on his pre-game persona, placing him in a collared shirt with a hoodie and blazer on as outerwear. The other pulls him right out of Space Jam featuring his new Tune Squad jersey. There’s also a Taco Tuesday variant pack, complete with a taco shirt and matching backpack. Each costume features optional sunglasses.

His kingly equipment includes a lion pickaxe, wingspan glider, his dance “The Silencer,” and a floating crown. Each of these outfits comes included with the new loading screen featuring the King himself.

LeBron James will be making his way from the court to your copy of Fortnite in two days on July 14.

It used to be that pro sports stars had to wait for press conferences or interviews to have their say, but new social media platforms like LeBron James' Uninterrupted have changed that. Now, even off the court or field, professional athletes double as entertainment figures. As such, it's fitting that Warner Bros. and Turner Sports have invested $15.8 million in James' platform, as reported by THR. The funds are expected to bring more content, focused on big names in sports, to mobile, web, and social media platforms, and even to TV and film.

James originally financed the platform with his manager, Maverick Carter, with the goal of creating a forum where athletes could share thoughts and opinions "uninterrupted." The duo teamed up with Turner's Bleacher Report to launch a hub for short point-of-view videos from athletes. Through the videos, sports stars speak directly to fans -- no media middleman needed.

Nike CEO: self-lacing shoes and body sensors coming to the NBA

At a recent meeting of the owners of the NBA teams, Nike CEO Mark Parker laid out a plan to bring more inventive technology to the company's ever-expanding collection of athletic apparel. Two of the major pieces of technology Parker focused on were sensors to control body temperature and the much publicized self-lacing -- that is, Power Lacing -- technology the company unveiled recently.

At the league’s board of governors meeting earlier this month, Parker explained how a person's body temperature could be controlled on a computer through body sensors. It's safe to assume that one article of athletic apparel Nike is planning to use these body sensors on will be NBA jerseys in 2017 when Nike will begin its service as the uniform provider of the NBA for eight years. Nike is paying $1 billion to become the NBA's first apparel partner to have its logo on all on-court uniform designs.

The NBA Finals matchup between the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers tips off Thursday night on ABC, and so far, LeBron James is winning the battle on Facebook. Over the course of the playoffs, Facebook's research team sifted through millions of Facebook comments, posts, and likes to create a Conversation Map, displaying who was mentioned more on the social network: the Warriors' superstar Stephen Curry or the Cavaliers' superstar Lebron James. As usual, James was the undisputed king.

The research team tallied all the data from the start of the NBA playoffs on April 18. Since then, 26 million people on Facebook have created more than 165 million posts, comments, and likes about the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Golden State Warriors. James, the 4-time NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP), has his kingdom firmly set in the East and South. Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, and the team's home state of Ohio mark eight of the 19 states where James was mentioned more than Curry in every county.
