Fortnite season 6, week 1 challenges and how to complete them

Season 6 of Fortnite is here and, as you might expect, week 1 is ripe with a slew of new challenges to check off your list. With it being the start of a new season, many of the challenges pertain to new mechanics that have just been introduced. For starters, this new update comes with a crafting mechanic, which adds a substantial change to the way many will approach certain situations. Along with that are the wild animals that spawn throughout the map, in addition to map alterations.

There are challenges that correspond to all of these mechanics, so you might be stumped on how to complete them since these features are brand new to the game. In this guide, we’ll go through each and every one of the new week 1 challenges, and we’ll provide more details on getting through some of the trickier ones. Here are Fortnite’s season 1, week 6 challenges and how to complete them.

We always recommend to at least take a glance at a new set of challenges so you can make a mental note of what you need to do for the week. Many of the quests pertain to crafting, which you’ll likely do anyway, while others might be trickier.

Below is a list of week 1’s new challenges:

  • Hunt Wildlife
  • Craft Primal weapons using bones and makeshift weapons
  • Craft a Hunter’s Cloak
  • Talk to characters
  • Collect mechanical parts from vehicles, trailers, buses, or tractors
  • Craft mechanical weapons using mechanical parts and a makeshift weapon
  • Find golden artifacts near The Spire
  • Craft items

Since so many of them involve crafting, you’ll want to spend a lot of time gathering resources and experimenting with different combinations of materials. It’s not hard, but it is a new feature, so it’ll take a bit of time to get used to. You’ll want to familiarize yourself with the new resources like animal bones and mechanical parts, along with the weapons that spawn on the ground.

Here are guides on some of the harder challenges for week 1 of season 6.

Mechanical weapons are traditional firearms you’ve gotten used to throughout Fortnite. Think SMGs, shotguns, or assault rifles. You can make them by using mechanical parts, so check the guide below on how to do that.

And those are the harder challenges you might be stuck on for the first week of Fortnite season 6. Fortunately, the challenges aren’t too difficult — they just require some knowledge of the game’s new crafting system, which is easy to master after a few matches.

How to beat Balteus in Armored Core 6
Two mechs facing off about to fight.

The first chapter of Armored Core 6 will teach you all the basics you need to know when jumping into your AC mech on a mission. You might face a tough mission or two here and there, and even a challenging boss, but you likely won't hit a real roadblock until the final boss of chapter 1, Balteus. This boss acts much differently from any enemy you faced before, and won't go easy on you. If you're struggling to survive in this hectic encounter, here's how to beat Balteus in Armored Core 6.
Balteus boss guide

Why will Balteus give you so much trouble? This is the first boss with a shield, and it can unleash what feels like an impossible amount of missiles upon you. When entering this fight, it is important that you have something that can quickly deal with its shields, such as a pulse gun or strong assault rifle, plus something on your shoulders like missile launchers for when it's time to deal direct damage.

Is Fortnite down? Updates and matchmaking status on July 26
Characters including Optimus Prime from Fortnite.

Is Fortnite down right now? A quick look on Twitter, as well as a message in-game, suggest that some players will have trouble getting into a match of the popular royale today, July 26.
For a multiplayer, live-service game like Fortnite, the status of the servers make or breaks the experience. The game is basically unplayable if the game goes down. That's why server issues happening today are frustrating for lots of Fortnite players, although it doesn't seem like everyone is affected.
Some players currently can't even log into the game, but if you do, a message indicating there are issues does appear in the lobby menu. "Matchmaking issues: Matchmaking is currently experiencing issues, and we are working to resolve them," the message says. Tweets from the official Fortnite Status Twitter also state that Epic Games is investigating issues players currently have with logging in, matchmaking, and using push-to-talk. That said, Fortnite's developers are "investigating a fix" and will "provide an update when this is resolved."
So, if you're planning on playing Fortnite today, know that you might run into some server issues while logging in or matchmaking. These problems don't seem to impact all players, though, as I was able to successfully get into three matches during this period.
If Fortnite is down for you, there isn't a lot you can do other than make sure the game is fully updated and that your platform's internet connection is stable. Epic Games will likely release a fix for these issues soon, and after that, everyone's Fortnite experience should be back to normal.
Fortnite is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.
