Nintendo has finally debuted the much-anticipated next-gen Wii console, the Wii U. If you expecting a simple refresh for the motion-gaming system that started them all you were wrong: The Wii sports a similarly compact yet more traditional look and feel of your classic consoles – deviating from this, of course, with the addition of a 6.2-inch touchscreen-tablet controller. The device also functions as the remote and comes complete with front-facing camera, stand-alone games, photo viewing, video chat, Web browsing, and more.

But don’t worry, Nintendo won’t forgo all familiarity. In addition to allowing up to four Wii Remote or Remote Plus controllers to connect at once, it is also compatible with all original Wii controllers and input devices.

The best Game Boy Color games of all time

In the early days, Nintendo was unchallenged in the handheld market. Just looking at the best Game Boy games will explain how this simple system managed to sell for so long, but eventually, it needed a little upgrade. We wouldn't get a true next-gen handheld until the eventual Game Boy Advanced (make sure not to miss our list of the best GBA games), but we did receive a small improvement with the Game Boy Color.

Despite its short lifespan, the Game Boy Color managed to get several great games, including some of the best Pokémon games and the best Zelda games, most of which we still consider some of the best games of all time. In fact, some are even better than the best 3DS games or best Switch games, and they're certainly still worth tracking down.

Part of the Nintendo Switch's appeal is its versatility -- you can play it at home on your TV or on the go in portable mode. This versatility also applies to multiplayer and the best co-op games, which can be played with single Joy-Con controllers, in tabletop mode, and wirelessly both online and locally. Better yet, many of the best Switch games are also cross-platform games between other consoles and PCs.

And while the Switch might not be the competitive powerhouse that the best PS5 games and best Xbox Series X games are, it still offers an incredible library of multiplayer games. In fact, the portable console is home to some of the best co-op experiences we've seen in this generation, and new competitive games are being added all the time. Here are our favorites, whether you're a fan of raucous racing games, mellow simulators, or monster-hunting titles of the finest caliber.
