Beta proves that Star Wars: Battlefront is a force to be reckoned with

One of the most talked about video games this year has been EA’s Star Wars: Battlefront and before this week having a chance at playing the new game seemed far, far away. With such detailed planets, characters and weapons shown off in trailers and more, until the recent release of the game’s beta, players have had to wonder if the game would live up to their expectations. Following all the hype for a franchise known and loved world-wide for decades, we put the beta to the test to see if Star Wars: Battlefront deserves attention on next month’s November 17th release date.

Star Wars Outlaws has a surprising connection to Solo

Star Wars Outlaws may feature a brand new smuggler character named Kay Vess, but it will include plenty of returning characters from the Star Wars movies as well. Lando Calrissian and a carbonite-frozen Han Solo have both appeared in the game's trailers, while characters like Jabba the Hutt and Qi'ra return as leaders of some of the criminal underworld Syndicates that players must work with. Lead writer Nikki Foy told Digital Trends at a Star Wars Outlaws preview event that bringing characters like Qi'ra back was taken very seriously.

"It's a huge responsibility. I think these are characters that belong to so many people. They're beloved by them as they've grown up with them. Our whole team takes it very seriously when writing for these characters," Foy tells Digital Trends.

Star Wars Outlaws’ open world looks less overwhelming than other Ubisoft games

Ubisoft has been taking strides to tweak how it creates open-world games, and that appears to be continuing with Star Wars Outlaws. In an IGN interview published Tuesday, Massive Entertainment developers detailed how a lot of the upcoming game's features were made, and that includes how it handles open-world exploration

Julian Gerighty, Massive creative director, gave more details on how it'll feel to traverse the different planets and moons featured in the game. While many of Ubisoft's worlds have felt too large, Massive seems to have taken a subtle, new approach that could make a big difference. It took into account not only how players will travel on foot but also by speeder.

Star Wars Outlaws’ summer release date leaks ahead of official reveal

Ubisoft Japan accidentally beat its global counterparts to the release date announcement punch, leaking the fact that Star Wars Outlaws will launch on August 30.

Ubisoft planned to release a new story trailer for Star Wars Outlaws, its open-world shooter about a smuggler fighting to stay afloat in the galaxy between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, on Tuesday morning. It set premieres across all its international YouTube channels for this trailer, and while the description for most of them had a message along the lines of "Stay tuned for the World Premiere of the Star Wars Outlaws Story Trailer," Ubisoft Japan slipped up. As spotted by Gematsu, the description of a since-delisted premiere for the trailer on Ubisoft Japan's channel revealed an August 30 release date.
