Amazon is giving you 6 months of MGM+ when you buy a new Fire TV

Phil Nickinson / Digital Trends

Amazon is giving six months of free access to MGM+ in conjunction with the purchase of a new Fire TV. The announcement came as part of Amazon’s massive annual device event at HQ2 in Arlington, Virginia. And that means low-cost sticks, as well as more expensive televisions running Amazon Fire TV.

Unsurprisingly, Amazon also used the event to announce a new Fire TV Stick 4K, Fire TV Stick 4K Max, and Fire TV Soundbar. Amazon announced in March 2023 that more than 200 million Fire TV devices had been sold worldwide, and that number is poised to continue growing strongly.

MGM+ is an Amazon-owned streaming service (it was known as EPIX+ until January 2023). It normally costs $6 a month and is available on its own or as an Amazon Prime Video Channel, which lets you watch it from within Amazon Prime Video.

In addition to all things James Bond (the spy series is always mentioned in the same breath as MGM), as well as decades and decades worth of legendary shows and movies, you’ll also get new original series like FROM, Billy the Kid, and Winter King. Plus you’ll also get a range of content from leading Hollywood studios, and a smattering of content from Paramount, stemming from a strategic agreement the companies have enjoyed for a number of years.

With so many shows being delayed due to the writers strike, which has now thankfully ended, you might be looking for something to fill the hole while you wait for new content. Plenty of new shows have recently been released on Prime Video, plus there are old classics that are now streaming and worth checking out.

From one of the most successful sitcom spinoffs in history to a new spinoff that toes the line between comedy, drama, and gore to a funny absurdist comedy, here are three TV comedies on Prime Video you need to watch in October.

Should you buy an obsolete Apple TV?

This 2022 Apple TV is not obsolete and will last for years. Phil Nickinson / Digital Trends

This probably should go without saying, but we're going to say it anyway: We cannot recommend that you buy tech that's considered to be "obsolete," or what's entered a phase called "end of life." Even if it's cheap. Even if it's a "deal." Even if — or especially because — it's refurbished. That goes for pretty much any tech. But specifically, in this case, we're referring to older Apple TV models.
